I was enjoying this and learning a lot, until I came to page 119, where he refers to peat fires as 'foul smelling'. I was so horrified I had to close my Kindle!!
Irish people all over the world dream of this beautiful smell! It evokes home, safety, security. It is one of my favourite smells ever. I even bring little pieces back to England to burn on the patio heater just to get a little 'fix' of Ireland when I am away. (No open fire here in London).
This faux pas has weakened my faith in the rest of the book - if he can make such a massive error, how reliable is the rest of the information?
Having said that, it is easy to read and given his credentials I am sure his history is sound...and he seems like a nice man....and I'm sure he means well.....but peat is 'foul smelling'.... I cannot get past that!!
