Product Description

Product Description

Look at a road map of New Zealand and you can't fail to notice State Highway 1, zigzagging the full length of the two main islands like a crazy zipper down a shapely thigh-length boot. Like a down-under Route 66 or M1, State Highway 1 is the nation's mother road, a physical and cultural nerve column that runs through the biggest cities and smallest hamlets. To Bob Moore, a Pom-turned- Kiwi, it all added up to a road trip from a tourist's wildest dream. So, he fuelled up his Toyota Starlet and set out to do 'the one thing' above all others you should do at every stop on this long and picturesque highway, from sailing and caving to cheese-tasting and welly-boot throwing. And after reading his hilarious and ribald write-up, you may just want to do likewise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go to New Zealand, 2 Aug 2007
This review is from: The 1 Thing: A Small Epic Journey Down New Zealand's Mother Road (Paperback)
This is a great book. The authours gentle humour and observations on life make a really good read. By the end of this book you will think you have known Bob all your life and wonder why you have never bothered to travel for 24hrs each way to visit NZ. In fact I might look him up when I go there next year!

2.0 out of 5 stars New Zealand epic left me cold, 29 Nov 2010
This review is from: The 1 Thing: A Small Epic Journey Down New Zealand's Mother Road (Paperback)
I bought this book to read while on holiday since I was going to New Zealand. My plan was to follow the author and see if I could spot the things he did as I passed through the same places. This would have been practically impossible as it turns out and I did not find that the comments really added to my trip - quite the reverse. Maybe I just didnt get the jokes?
