This is a single short story, so it is hard to say too much without going spoiler-crazy. But suffice to say it is a taut, well-written story, which manages to do something new and different with the traditional ghost story. No mean feat. It's tone is almost lyrical and sad rather than scary. I look forward to reading a full collection of short fiction from this author - I think it could be something special.

The word chilling is often over-used in horror reviews but here it fits perfectly. This is a blood-runs-cold story and my favourite out of this author's output to date that conjures up one of the most disturbing ideas about our final days and the afterlife that might well follow that I have read. Highly, highly recommended.

This is the most thought-provoking horror short story that I've ever read. It really got me pondering death, life, and the roads not taken. The imagery in the book is quite haunting. I know this may sound strange, but this horror story was strangely life-affirming (as in better get out there and grab life by the horns) for me. It also had me reflecting on my own life (I'm 43 and hoping there will be many more years to come). . .at times, the book made me feel sad and then I felt spurred to action (or else!). I really enjoyed this read!
