Apparitions and visions of deceased loved ones being seen again after their physical bodies had been buried or cremated are the oldest and most common type of paranormal phenomena and one which my last book After Death Communications dealt exclusively with. The notion of an afterlife and stories of ghostly sightings have been circling around as long as man has inhabited the earth. This preoccupation with the next world, and longing for confirmation that our loved ones have lived on and are able to somehow communicate that fact to us, has become an integral part of many people’s lives, yet is still treated with suspicion and taboo.
It is a little known fact that for over 100 years we have actually had experimental scientific proof that we all survive the death of our physical bodies, that the living mind separates from the dead brain.
There are many credible documented accounts of full and partial materialisations of known deceased people and animals, objects and sitters being levitated, the apportation of flowers, coins and other objects and detailed and specific information coming from the mouths of those who have passed on. Such goings on happen within the branch of Physical Mediumship which is a very very rare phenomenon. It has been estimated that only one in 100,000 people has the ability to develop this gift and it generally takes twenty years or so of disciplined effort to do so . Physical Mediumship producing materialisations is currently the only phenomenon able to provide experimental proof of survival after death. During such physical séances or sittings, what I am interested most in is the fact these rare mediums are able to bring the deceased back to Earth in solid form. I found the start of the book a bit hard going, as I wanted to get to the study bits, but it is fascinating how someone with their own pre determined beliefs can have them so shaken by the truth. I have been reading up on subjects for 30 years, and studied physics at A level, only briefly touching on quantum mechanics but I always thought it would explain how everything fits.
Shame there is not more of Ronald Pearsons work, but it has got me off finding out for myself. A must read for anyone interested in the paranormal, ghosts, spiritualism, physics etc etc

This book covers terrain already well trampled in the first half of the 20th century - with one important exception. These phenomena are occurring here and now in an age when we thought the great but controversial materialization mediums, of the like of Helen Duncan, were simply no more. The mediums of old were both ardently supported by some psychical researchers and debunked or exposed by others. In the process the mediums were often dehumanizingly treated as mere objects for scientific dissection.
In repeating the investigative process in a modern context however, one is struck by the sincerity, openess and respect with which Heathcote-James makes her enquiries. For me the most convincing point is that the physical mediumship development groups themselves, perhaps remembering the fate of their predecessors, do not wish to be identified. How then can we accuse them of fraud? There is neither monetary gain nor notoriety at stake for them under these circumstances and hence no motive for deception. Besides our researcher has night vision goggles.
Like so many enquirers before her - not least of all Sir Oliver Lodge and Arthur Findlay - the author builds important links between the 'seeing is believing' and what we know to be possible within the laws of material physics. Material physics has moved on very significantly over the past century and Heathcote-James work is therefore a valuable update of her predecessors work. We don't seem to have been blessed with a book this important in the field of physical mediumship in the passed half century. I'm glad we have it now.

After reading the only other two reviews here, I waited for this book's arrival with keen anticipation only to find it truly awful! Why? Well, one hardly knows where to start - but I'll try! The book's author, apparently, has a PhD in religious experience but the utterly poor standard of scholarship demonstrated within beggars belief: it's repetitious, banal and full of `waffle'. She devotes a 'whole 4 pages' to debunking Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, primarily by invoking the work of a retired university lecturer in engineering called Ronald Pearson. An example of the author's method of argument can be found at the end of Chapter 4 where she concludes that `the biggest argument that I can offer you in favour of there being an afterlife is that no scientist has yet proved that the afterlife does not exist'. Well, I can't recall any scientist proving that creatures called clangers don't live on a far away planet living happily on blue-string soup fed to them by a soup dragon but it doesn't mean that they do!
The whole thing has the feel of an offering from a well-intentioned 16 year old trying to get good marks for her GCSE coursework! How on Earth this ever got to be published is the real mystery: the book certainly appears not to have been edited - whole sections should have been excised not to mention the fact that it's also full of misspellings and gaps where words should have been in order for it to make, at least, some sort of sense. To sum up - it's tripe and does neither its author's cause nor the people whose work she claims to 'champion' any favours at all.
