5.0 out of 5 stars An essential CD in any rock/ blues collection 27 Jan 2002
For those of you who been initiated in to The Hamsters then the quality of this latest CD will come as no surprise. If "Rodent Rock" is a completely alien concept then read on. "They Live By Night" is the most recent album from the 3 piece band hailing from Westcliff on Sea. From the opening track of "Show Me" to the final offering of "The Walk" some 74 mins later you are treated to an extravaganza of pure rock and blues. Slim and the boys take you on a roller coaster of musical emotion leaving you breathless but begging for more.

The guitar work of Slim is exceptional, particularly on "Breaking Up Somebodys Home" and is up with the likes of Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher and Stan Webb. He is ably supported by bass guitarist Zsa Zsa and The Reverand Otis on drums and together form an extremely tight and highly professional band.

Tracks such as "Trigger Man", "Blues For The Blues" and "Rocket In My Pocket" are of the highest quality and is pure rock/blues at its very best.

This CD contains no frills. The music is uncomprimising with a driving rhythm and the tracks just keep on coming.

Voted "Best Live Rock/Blues Band" by 'Whispering Bob Harris' speaks for itself, and after listening to this album you will understand why. After some 3000 concerts in 15 years they still play with a real enthusiasm and obviously thoroughly enjoy what they do.

So if you like some rock with your blues then this CD is a must. Send the neighbours out for the evening, turn the volume up to max on the hi-fi and lay back and enjoy it. The Hamsters take you by the scruff of the neck and shake you until you are weak at knees. Few albums make me smile with pure pleasure but this one does....

Fantastic entertainment! Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Hamster Crazy 8 Aug 2006
If you love going to small venues and are into rock and blues then go and see the Hamsters. Whether you choose the straight band gig or a Hendix/ZZ Top gig you won't be disappointed. I've been going to see the Hamsters for over twelve years and they never let you down. If you are in or around the London area try the Half Moon in Putney. They play the last Saturday each month. This is a friendly pub with loads of music history. Check out the photos on the wall in the main bar to get a feel of the many famous names that have played there. Hope you enjoy it. Check out their web site where you'll find all there gigs listed. Music at it's best. No hype, no bullsh--.

Starting with a rock and roll number l queeried if this was as good as people said.......
But the next track intantly assured me that it was, a simple but wonderful 12-bar number called 'Trigger Man' demonstrating, not only, how good the 13 remaining tracks are but aswell how good musicians they are [one of the three was from doctor Feelgood but because I'm only 14 l don't know who]. After hearing a track like this my ears adapted to liking the ever-so few more rock and roll numbers. I might be only 14 but l have over 100 cds including lots of: Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Buddy Guy, David Bowie; so if you think l have taste click add to basket NOW!
