"They Hunger" is a tense survival horror story set in the Appalachian mountains. The plot is simple but effective. An explosion awakens a group of vampires from their slumber in a cave and they set out to feed upon a nearby group of whitewater rafters.
There are a couple of sexually explicit parts but not many and the violence is nicely spaced out. The character development is okay but nothing brilliant. However the author does take a lot of time to describe,in great detail, the breath taking scenery of the Appachian mountains and the Unegama river which makes it so much easier for the reader to visualise the scenery that the characters are meant to be seeing. This is probably the author's main strong point and one of the things I enjoyed most about this book. The story itself moves along at a comfortable pace and never feels too rushed or too slow.
All in all it's a decent horror story set in a beautiful, isolated location and I would recommend that horror fans give it a try.

River Wild meets Bats 1 July 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Five white-water rafters, two FBI agents, and bad boy Ace Goodall and his girl, Carla travel down the Unegama River in the Appalachian Blue Ridge Mountains and are terrorized by man-size vampire creatures. There was enough bickering going on between the macho characters for me to hate them enough that I was looking forward to them biting the bullet. Unfortunately, the characters I was rooting for did also. Think of Deliverance only the oversexed hillbillies are now winged vampires out for blood. I liked that Scott Nicholson wrote a review on himself why he wrote the book.

Terrible 9 July 2008
By Smokey
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I really hate to start a book and not finish it but I nearly left this book a few times. The story line is extremely slow and the charactors are boring and flat. There wasn't one person in the book that I cared if they lived or died. The author has tried to go for a new angle on an old style monster we all know well and it just did nothing for the book. I didn't even care when I found out where it was going. I'd never recommend this book to anyone.
