Product Description

Even with a huge problem to worry about, Father McKenzie still manages to see the good in everyone. His job is made more difficult by his nosy housekeeper and the gossips from the shop down the road. Will they succeed in spoiling things, or will Father McKenzie's advice win the day?

This charming tale shows the ups and downs of everyday life in a truly heart-warming way. It will have you laughing out loud and shedding a tear - both at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lonely but Heartwarming 15 April 2009
By Alessi Lover TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
If like myself you sometimes just don't have the time to start and finish reading a thick book (no matter how good it is) well these 'Quick Reads' fit the bill.

Lots of different titles in the Read More campaign, (by Penguin) so something for everyone.

The title of this one in particular is 'All These Lonely People', the book does say that it shows the ups and downs of everyday life in a truly heartwarming way, I can certainly vouch for that.

Father McKenzie sees the good side in everyone, even though his life is full of ups and downs, you have the nosy housekeeper and like every village/town the gossips. You can see people in the book that you can see like for like for in real life (now that can be frightening).

On the whole though a pleasant read full of emotion and the events of an old priest trying to look after his flock, adoption, sinners, new boyfriends and 'Miss Rigby' etc all come together and the ending well I would never have guessed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous quick read 27 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a fabulous little book, ideal as it states "for a quick read". I had read it in a couple of hours or so. It is a heartwarming book with a moral behind it. I loved it, and although it is completely different to his "Dales" books, it was well written.

This book is part of the "Quick Reads" series, released to coincide with World Book Day on March 5th.

I'm not a Beatles fan at all (I know, I know...) but I happen to love their song `Eleanor Rigby', on which this book is based.

Father McKenzie is not a well man, but he carries on valiantly doing his best. Although the church is not very well attended, he does have some `regulars', including the rather strange Miss Rigby and a little boy, Matthew, who is both troubled and a bit of a tearaway, who finds comfort in the church. There is also a young man who turns to him for advice when he discovers that he was adopted - a fact his parents kept from him - and which he finds very hard to come to terms with.

Father McKenzie helps these people as best he can with his advice - but how long can things carry on as they are...?
