When I bought this DVD did not realise it was Region 1.
So , looked again and found VHS tape, arrived as new ,
but thought story line a bit weak. Shirley MacLaine still Great.

Of dear! It's embarrassing to see such well loved actresses brought to this. Don't watch and keep your memories in tact

4.0 out of 5 stars Its not bad - really 3 Jan 2013

This film is not as bad as some reviewers make out. Its a silly, cheesy story but they all look like they are having fun and when or where else will you see these four divas together in one film. Shirley Maclaine is the most forceful but Elizabeth Taylor is slightly cringe worthy and is not in too many scenes which is just as well. Maybe they all needed money in real life so agreed to making this but what the heck - it was never meant to be a serious piece of cinema !

THESE OLD BROADS 2001 ***/**** Matthew Diamond. With a title like this, and starring
Shirley MacLaine, Joan Collins, Debbie Reynolds and Liz Taylor (her final film) this could be utterly awful but it’s not, and though hammy and clichéd, it is well worth a watch. A made for television film, the ladies, who have a right old bitch-fest are able to do so with a very sharp and funny script. The plot (hardly necessary) is that the 3 were in a TV series of the 60s/70s which suddenly becomes popular again in the new millennium, so the studio decide to dig them all up. Liz Taylor was their agent so now negotiates fees. (She does a very strange though wholly consistent accent (Brooklyn?)). MacLaine's adopted son devolves into directing them. He eventually discovers she is actually his blood mother. He is gay, this is revealed half way through the film – though I didn’t get that or its relevance, especially as there is a scene where he is in bed with his woman friend. Rather jolly scene where the broads are all in a gay club together and perform Arlen’s “Get Happy”. After loads of scenes of atrocious rehearsals and endless rows and bickering, of course they all do a simply terrific finale and are a triumph. Lots of fun and genuinely funny. And jolly nice to see Liz for one last time
