4.0 out of 5 stars Great But Noisy! 21 May 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Well I bought this in July, it is now May 2012. What can I say, the cooler works great, couldn't believe the size of it when I opened the box! Needed a second pair of hands to fit it, but this was first go at it so I was a bit of a noob. Anyways, in terms of performance this cooler is brilliant, the thing turns into a jet engine on full power. If you put your hand on the exhaust fan it is literally like one of those hand driers in public toilets! The shear amount of air this thing shifts is amazing!

I have a Phenom II X4 B50 (Unlocked from X2) so naturally it's giving out more heat and sitting it Idle this thing will knock the temps down to 25 degree's c.
On a full load it will never exceed 40, taking into account the max is like 70, you will be fine with this cooler.

Not gonna lie this thing is NOISY on full power it really does sound like It's about to take off! But my policy is if your gaming you're going to have your sound up or headset on your not gonna hear it at all. You also get manual speed controls on the cooler, annoying thing is you have to take the side off every time you want to alter it. Yea your mobo regulates it but not that well.

All in all great cooler, a little noisy but nothing to bad. MUST BUY

5.0 out of 5 stars Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler 1 Sep 2010
This summer (2010), both my computers were getting very hot, one would even freeze up and re-start, the other would run at 60 degrees centigrade at idle, I then read a review in Custom PC magazine for the Thermaltake Frio, liked the look of it and ordered one.
Once fitted and running, the pc that used to freeze and shut down now runs at idle around 35 degrees and even under full sustained load only reaches around 47 degrees max, and this is with the thermaltake's fan at it's lowest speed!. With this result I had no hesitation of ordering one for my other pc, one problem did appear though with this pc in that it has quite an old case and when I tried to re-install the motherboard it would not fit as the large heat sink fouled the cross member between the main compartment and the power supply bay, one new case latter and everything is now fine, all this was worth it for vastly reduced temperatures and stability, not to mention the smart new case in place of the old beige one!. Both my pcs are socket 775s so these coolers can be moved at a latter date to newer sockets as and when I upgrade as all the fittings (and enough thermal paste for quite a number of re-fittings) are included for both new Intel sockets and AMD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best coolers I've ever bought 4 April 2013

It made quite a difference when I installed it, and allowed my to clock my Phenom II even higher - so highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's. HUGE. 28 Feb 2013

Great product. I was truly shocked by the size of this beast!

Comes with thermal paste and multiple mounting brackets for all sorts of motherboards. I would check on your case whether there is an access hole in the frame to the back of the motherboard where the cpu socket sits that is big enough to enable an easy fan install and mount onto the bracket.

I had to remove my mobo from the case, making install more hassle than it will be for others.

Reason for buying: my CPU clocked 98c and had to shutdown to save itself.

The only things I can really fault about the item is the manual fan control dials as this is somewhat inconvenient compared to controlling the RPM from the Desktop, and the noise the fans make on high setting is incredibly loud, like when you're on a plane and there's that constant drone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product 26 Feb 2013

This is a great cooler. It has several different configuration options. Take your time installing it and deciding which orientation to have it, how to have the fans setup etc. It is larger than you might expect, so even if you have a full size ATX case (I fitted in my Fractal Design R3) it will only just fit so be warned.

Great cooler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cold and silent 16 Feb 2013

I used this for my first computer build with no regrets at all.
This baby kept my CPU temp at 17 degrees on idle on just a push function alone.

The heat sink comes with x2 120mm (speed adjustable dials) fans for a push-pull function but my motherboard wouldn't allow me space to put the other fan on the opposite side for the pull, but even with the push function it was more than adequate.

Even my new water cooling system has idle temps of 25 degrees!
This will do the trick!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine 6 Nov 2012

Nice looking unit and comes with everything you need. The only slipping point for me was the useless documentation / guide to installation it came with. I eventually figured it out but only after looking at Youtube videos! I'm a first time custom PC builder so it was quite daunting due to weak documentation. The unit is fantastic though - if you know how these things hook up, then this is great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with it. 30 July 2011
I have finished building my own spec pc and I brought this cpu fan to go on my i5 2500k sandybridge, after reading other reviews and doing my own research I brought this fan. I'm very happy with it but can't compare it with others as I have not tried anything else. My pc stays cool even with high end games and I have no probs with noise issues either.
