This is another example of how Indie as a musical movement was so much more worthwhile in the 1980's. The Bodines were one of the C86 bands, a legendary NME compilation which has entered musical history for more or less giving birth to the Indie genre.
Of the C86 crop of bands, only a few found long-lasting success in the music business, such as Primal Scream, or McCarthy, who many bands today still list as an influence. But several other bands, such as The Shop Assistants and The Bodines had charms which have been lost in music history. Although the Shop Assistants were far more musically accomplished and the Wedding Present were more of a 'cult' band, the Bodines had a more than decent vocalist and a very decent rhythm section. This is very simple, but very effective and very charming Indie-pop with very little pretension.
This song, 'Therese' was the song which appeared on the C86 compilation, and is a fast-paced, infectious, poppy number, not lyrically insightful, but cheery and earnest enough to give it sufficient appeal to anyone who really knows their Indie.
