There'll be Blue Skies by Ellie Dean is a book which I would recommend to all readers of fiction based on the Second World War era, especially those who like to read books which showed true friendship and old family values through this difficult time. If you are a fan of Lilian Harry or Annie Groves you will love this book as Ellie Dean is certainly an author who knows how to reach the readers through using characters who me as a reader could not stop caring for and all I wanted was a happy ending especially for Sally and little Ernie.
The main characters in this book where Sally Turner and her younger brother Ernie who was left disabled due to suffering polio as a child. They were being sent to live away from London due to the bombs and they do not realise this adventure which they are scared to go on is going to be the best thing that has ever happened them as at last they were going to be cared for in a way they have only been while their Grandmother was alive. Sally was more a mother to Ernie than their actual mother Florrie as you do meet her briefly and you will soon realise what Sally had to endure on a daily business while their father was risking his life daily by serving with the merchant navy. Sally is welcomed into Peggy Reilly's family like one of her own and they soon make her boarding house their home but Sally has her problems to face along with a touch of happiness but soon the war reaches the boarding house in ways she could not imagine.

Ellie Dean is a star this book was just brilliant what a storyline and setting so utterly believable and so well written, set in WW2 with a 'feckless mother' father away at sea Sally and her younger brother Ernie are evacuated to the seaside from the East End of London and there the story begins - what a roller coaster for Sally but all comes good in the end. Can't wait for Ellie Deans next book.

I highly recommend this book. Set in WW2 with a great storyline. I couldn't put it down. I am now hoping there will be a next book to see what happens to all the great characters.

Sally and her younger brother Ernie are being evacuated to the south coast of England. Due to a luck they end up at the Beach View boarding house with the loveable Rielly family. In time both Sally and Ernie become one of the family but as the bombing increase and the arrival of their mother, things may change and not for the good.
"There'll be Blue Skies" is the first book in a series by Ellie Dean and it is great! Ms. Dean bring life on the south coast alive for the reader and gives the reader great characters. I can wait to read other books in the series!

The first of a series of books about life in a fictional south coast town set in Kent that follows the trials and tribulations of a small family group caught up in the shuttlecock evacuations from London to various parts of the country during 1939/45. Despite probably being aimed at a primarily female audience, it's a fascinating and credible tale of the triumphs and disasters that befell the primary characters. Being interested in the early part of WW2, I spotted a couple of minor historical references that weren't timely, but I'm sure most people wouldn't notice once they were involved with this enthralling tale. It certainly won't stop me from buying the sequels, the first of which is on my bookshelf waiting for the appropriate moment to start reading it.
