Excellent reissue treatment of a truly fantastic album,
This review is from: There You Go (Audio CD)
A black American, very expressive gospel/blues/soul songstress accompanied by John Renbourn's intricate finger picking guitar - well, it looks like cheese and chalk on paper. Coming out of a pair of speakers, however, it is nothing short of a musical miracle. Even if the sound samples don't grab you immediately, it is worth getting this amazing disc while it's still available and give it some more time to win you over.
The reissue job is perfect, too. Mastered from original mono and augmented with some nice sleeve notes, plus an ultra rare single as bonus tracks, it is really a superb treat to any fan of mid-1960s folk. To top it off, the mastering is done with both care and love, and there are some nice pictures. Note the tear in Renbourn's jacket. These people weren't in it for the money and, predictably, the record didn't sell many copies. Luckily, it's now possible to buy on CD. Thanks John, thanks Dorris (R.I.P.).

I am really... bewitched by this beautifull music. How a black siren fits so well in classical english songs and gives them a new dimension is just utter magic. A diamond that shines in the darkest night. Listen to Ribbon bow and you're at the same place where I am now. This is just beautifull true music.

SOMETHING SPECIAL,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: There You Go (Audio CD)
It's a pleasure to come across an artist that truly touches your soul. There is a purity to this CD that is hard to come by in this day of big production and synthesized music. Dorris has a voice that is hard to categorize, at times soaring soulfully and at other times soft and melancholy. One of my personal favorites is her rendition of the Dylan classic Mr Tamborine Man. When she sings the lyric "play a song for me" you wonder how anyone could resist complying with her request. And Ribbon Bow is a sweet glimpse into the past, to a more simple time when it really didn't take much to grant a young girl's wish. John Renbourn's guitar playing is superb and compliments Dorris' unique style wonderfully. Any one who is a folk purist should enjoy this CD throughly. It is a break from the ordinary and a pleasure to listen to.
