A black American, very expressive gospel/blues/soul songstress accompanied by John Renbourn's intricate finger picking guitar - well, it looks like cheese and chalk on paper. Coming out of a pair of speakers, however, it is nothing short of a musical miracle. Even if the sound samples don't grab you immediately, it is worth getting this amazing disc while it's still available and give it some more time to win you over.
The reissue job is perfect, too. Mastered from original mono and augmented with some nice sleeve notes, plus an ultra rare single as bonus tracks, it is really a superb treat to any fan of mid-1960s folk. To top it off, the mastering is done with both care and love, and there are some nice pictures. Note the tear in Renbourn's jacket. These people weren't in it for the money and, predictably, the record didn't sell many copies. Luckily, it's now possible to buy on CD. Thanks John, thanks Dorris (R.I.P.).
