Product Description

Review

This is one of my favourite ever stories. The book uses pages with holes cut out so that you can see what is inside the old ladies stomach - yuck! Fabulous! (Betty Betty Bookmark )

This much loved traditional story provides a wealth of activities and is very cleverly constructed so that the holes in the book work both backwards and forwards. The story is about a huge old lady who accidentally swallows a fly then swallows a great many animals one by one as a remedy, until she finally ingests one to many. Repetition and build up are strong features of the story. It also contains steady rhythm and rhyme, and children love the inevitability of the denouement. (5 to 7 Educator )

Review

This classic board book retells a childhood favourite and can be enjoyed by adults as well as toddlers. Young children love the brightly coloured pages with their ever growing holes. The various animals shown in the old lady's belly are guaranteed to have your toddler giggling enthusiastically. babyworld.co.uk 20050301 --This text refers to the Board book edition.

Format:Board book
My Mum bought this for me when I was little and I loved the song. I forgot all about it until recently when I bought a Pete Seeger CD - 'Birds, Beasts, Bugs and Fishes (Little and Big)' - and it has this slightly dark but funny song on it. So I searched on Amazon and found the book I had when I was little. It's got holes in it so you can peek into the old lady's tummy to see all the animals she's gobbled up. Now my little girl enjoys singing the song with me about the old lady who swallowed the horse, cow, dog, cat, bird, spider and fly - perhaps she'll die?

Simply wonderful 28 April 2005
By C. Chambers VINE™ VOICE
Format:Board book
There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly......and copious other creatures, much to the three year old's delight. Great pictures and you view what she has swallowed through a hole of ever increasing size. "Mama, they're in her tummy!" He loves running his finger round the wiggly die cut holes where the repeat lines appear. He loves giggling at the tickly spider. It's not the sort of book you need to encourage them to get involved with - they just do! A lovely version of this old classic song and one that gets the cry of "do it again" at least three times every time you read it. Great fun. Enjoy it!

Very Small!! 26 Jan 2005
Format:Board book
I remember this book from my childhood and have seen it in shops, so i thought i would buy it for my little boy. When it arrived i was disappointed because it is so small. I was expecting a big A4 size book but it is only marginally bigger than a Cd case...........i guess you would call it pocket sized!
The story is as fabulous as ever, but because it is small the writing is crammed in and difficult to read.

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly
Traditional story, very colourful illustrations with great cut aways to show what the old lady ate. Very entertaining and a great favourite with my family.
