I borrowed an old dusty edition of this book from my local library about 8 years ago in the hope that I'd pick up a few tips on how to reduce my workload in the house. I seemed to be doing housework 24 hours a day often still mopping the floor at 11pm and yet the house never looked either clean or tidy. I was exhausted and the children were losing out as I never had time to do the fun things.

Today, as a direct result of Dan Aslett's very readable and humorous book my housework takes a fraction of the time even though I now have 5 children instead of the then 2 and I have even given some talks to Moms on house cleaning technique!! Dan's focus particularly on how to prevent work by decluttering and having and using the correct equipment means that the house becomes a place to relax and unwind rather than a source of stress.

I've bought a number of copies for friends and will continue to do so.
I cannot recommend this book enough for anyone who feels they're drowning in the house!

The newer editions of Aslett's books are cheerful with fun illustrations.

This book provides a professional cleaner's advice on keeping your house clean without spending every waking hour vacuuming, dusting and scrubbing. This includes equipment and supplies you will need as well as how to use them. I read it through from start to finish, and still find myself dipping in for advice several years on. There is a lot of information in here and it really takes several readings to retain all the relevant bits. It was written by an American, so UK readers may have to look up some of the products mentioned in the book as some things were not familiar to me. It can't clean your house for you, but if you want a guide for cleaning smarter, not harder, this is it.

An excellent book. This was recommended to me by a friend a couple of years ago - I wish I had bought it then! It's full of good practical advice and funny! A must for anyone who wants a clean, organised house without spending all day, every day cleaning. I actually discovered I was doing some of the things correctly - but I am working on my squeegee action on windows! The best advice is about what doesn't need cleaning and how to assess when things really do need cleaning. Saves time, money and sanity!
