This is the story of a young French girl (Matthews) who is being forced into a marriage by her father as part of a business deal. Before the wedding she jumps on a train for Paris and meets up with the lead Owen Nares who plays a playboy also engaged to be married. Although Nares was rather old for the part, the two leads are excellent together with many funny moments. Jessie was 25 when she made this picture but looks in her late teens. She is excellent throughout. Her comic timing is perfect and her singing and dancing as always first rate. Like a number of films before the war, the dialogue is 'suggestive' at times (without being crude)which is refreshing. The cast carry this enjoyable romp off well. I bought this because I only had a home made DVD of it and the soundtrack is much better than my original, although the picture quality is dark in some places. Still it is over 75 years old and remains one of my favourites. There are bonus pictures on the disc too. I hope Granada are planning to issue all of Miss Matthews' films on DVD. Even though I have most in the collection - except 'Out of the Blue' and 'The Midshipmaid' - I would be happy to have them in 'official' releases like this. If you haven't discovered the lovely Jessie Matthews yet, here is your chance. Highly recommended.
