5.0 out of 5 stars Funeral Songs, 13 Mar 2006
By Mr. C. D. Pearce "chipstick_" (Southampton, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Amazing. I have waited too long for this album, and now it is finally here. Engerica's debut. Stunning. Every track - brilliant. The singles (My Demise, Roadkill, Trick or Treat and The Smell) ring out as standout tracks alongside It Was a Goddamn Suicide!, Misery Guts and Did You Hear What Sylvia Said?. The remaining tracks are nearly as good and tie in well with the rest of the album. Reasons To Be Fearful (part 1) is an interesting opener, that Rock Sound refers to as "not radio-friendly pop-rock but a barrage of indiscernible and offensive noise...just brilliant.".

My only critism is having to wait through 11 or so minutes of silence at the end of the last track untill the (albeit great) hidden track that echos a similar style to the opener in its incoherant lyrics...but it works. Think 'Goddamnit' era Alkaline Trio with a small hint of Billy Talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engerica - There are no happy endings, 3 Jul 2009
The album overall is a fantastic reflection on british 'underground' music back in 2006 including a fantastic remake of Funeral song remastered, the vocalist has an extremely animated and adaptive voice leading to some brilliant sound, he works well with the band and brings it together which is where alot of rock/punk singers fail.

Overall this album gets 5 stars from me!

4.0 out of 5 stars The british Billy Talent, 1 Jun 2006
By Krudley (Hampshire, U.K) - See all my reviews
Where do you start when reviewing an album like this?

I know!

I'll tell you that I bought this album 5 weeks ago and that I haven't stopped listening to it since. Everytime I've overplayed one song, I start to like another more.

I did want to start with critisms actually because this band isn't perfect but definately on the right track with it, the sound the capture could be, dare I say, a little more polished.

I do however, counter that by telling you that you probably won't find a rockier (or more polished) british song than "Roadkill". Immense tempo and structure, roaring aggression at the end, it's an amazing song.

If you really want to see where British rock is going then buy this album, it's that simple. Reuben, Biffy and Billy Talent fans will adore some of the stuff.

If you don't buy it for this reason then buy it to hear "Goddamn suicide" just to hear the lyric "Jesus wept and gave me a hard-on". The whole song is an utter mick-take out of whiny kids culmanated in the lyrics "my shoes are rubbish, my hair is a mess, my life is a failure and I'm constantly depressed" tinted with a sense of sarcasm.

I highly reccommend this album but I don't promise it to be perfect, just a good listen for you muso's out there.

Whether you take my word is up to you!
