This compact little book is really a find! Gives a basic and common sense introduction to the subject, and makes an excellent resourse for review and passing on to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners 26 Oct 2009
By L. Rasavong - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is very simple to follow and learn about Theravada Buddhism. I'm a Theravada Buddhist and I bought it so I can read it to my daughter (who is currently only 17 months old but she will grow into the book).

This book is good for anyone interested in an intro to buddhism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accesible and Concise. 22 April 2013
By G. Ridgeway - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book does exactly what it states. It gives you the bear heart of what Theravada Buddhism is, what those who practice it generally think as well as the layman views on it from east and western points. It does it in a way which is long and deep enough to give you what you want to know and a little more. Without over complicating it with alot of opinions, and degressions! Absolutely worth buying.

Very nice introduction to Theravada and general Buddhism foundations.
Good to read befor goint to Theravada country as it touches cultural issues that may arise without some knowledge, eg why monks do not behave gratefull when dontated etc.
5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLE AND clear! 6 Jan 2014
By Harry Weidlich - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I got this book because it's title says: Simple!
I like simple, especially in subjects that may be daunting due to strange terminology.
The author took.pains to present the subject understandably and with clear definitions of Pali and Sanskrit words.
Well done!
