A man known for his humour and also for his acting ability. Quite a varied degree of talents all wrapped up in one man. He is one of America's truly great singer-songwriters and part of a distinguished family. His father, Loudon Wainwright Jr., was a columnist for Life magazine. His sister, Sloan Wainwright is also a singer, while his children - Rufus and Martha - are both established singer/songwriters. Their mother's the late and well respected musician Kate McGarrigle.
`Therapy' hums with the thoughts and beliefs that have varnished Loudon Wainwright III's life and purpose. When you listen to a song like `Thanksgiving' you are drawn inescapably towards a world where there's mirth and tears, affection and aggression.
Perhaps the best example here of how this man can twist and turn is the song `T.S.D.H.A.V.'. This stands for `This Song Don't Have A Video', and was to be the only single taken from this album. Guess what? It does have a video!
The record is in many respects a more intimate portrait of what makes this man who he is than anything that had gone before. It's also a prime example of his songwriting skills.
