Product Description

Review

"In general, I believe that the Corey text is one of the best available for students at the level at which I teach (psychology majors at the advanced level)."

"a]well-written, up-to-date, highly readable and accessible, an excellent introduction to counseling theories, and a text that emphasizes growth and wholeness rather than pathology. In describing this book, I would also emphasize the attention to diversity that flows throughout the book. I would highlight both the multicultural sections and the feminist therapy approach as evidence of Coreyas commitment to an inclusive approach." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

This revision of Gerald Corey's best-selling text introduces students to the major theories of counseling (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist and, new to this edition, postmodern approaches) and demonstrates how each theory can be applied to a single case ("Stan"). Reviewed by 27 of the field's leading experts, Corey's Seventh Edition covers the major concepts of counseling theories, shows students how to apply those theories in practice, and helps them learn to integrate the theories into an individualized counseling style. Incorporating the thinking, feeling, and behaving dimensions of human experience, Corey offers an easy-to-understand text that helps students compare and contrast the therapeutic models. This book is the center of a suite of products that include a revised student manual, a revised casebook, a companion text, and an all-new CD-ROM.

I found this book very usefull. As a counselling student,it helped me to formulate questions and some probable answers as I near the end of my training and am struggling with the issue of Integrating theories. Would have liked Object Relations theories to have been given more space, instead of a few paragraphs lumped in with Analysis, but am aware that this book is revised each addition, some things removed some added. The conciseness of the text inevitebly requires some sacrifice. On the whole I found it a very fair minded book, an honest and successfull attempt to clarify the major therapies, in a very accessable way.
