Product Description

Product Description

This revised text aims to help students develop a personalized style of counselling. ten contemporary theories are presented and these are psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centred, Gestalt, reality, behaviour, cognitive-behaviour, family systems, and feminist. The book demonstrates how each theory can be applied to a single hypothetical case (Stan), covers the major concepts of counselling theories, shows students how to apply those theories in practice, and helps them learn to integrate the theories into an individualized counselling style. Incorporating the thinking, feeling, and behaving dimensions of human experience, the author offers an accessible text that encourages students to compare and contrast the therapeutic models. This book is the centre of a suite of products that includes a revised student manual, a revised casebook, a new companion text, and a student video and workbook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well ordered, plainly written, makes integration possible, 9 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I found this book very usefull. As a counselling student,it helped me to formulate questions and some probable answers as I near the end of my training and am struggling with the issue of Integrating theories. Would have liked Object Relations theories to have been given more space, instead of a few paragraphs lumped in with Analysis, but am aware that this book is revised each addition, some things removed some added. The conciseness of the text inevitebly requires some sacrifice. On the whole I found it a very fair minded book, an honest and successfull attempt to clarify the major therapies, in a very accessable way.
