5.0 out of 5 stars The post-war period's most acclaimed architectural critic, 2 April 2003
No architectural student should proceed without reading this book. You can even begin with its last chapter and then return to earlier parts (the substance of the PhD) to see what he was concerned about. The erudition is outstanding, but it is the final chapter with its undertones of Pop enthusiasms that remains highly relevant to this day. There is simply no way in which you can make sense of modernism, the role of technology in architectural design, Pop and - by implication - post-Modernism, without appreciating Banham.
