Review
Guitar-laden, hook-laden, synth and beat-laden and dare we say a breath of fresh air to break the Bristol mould at last... ...a real vibey sound that is all-too rare in this digital age, and almost at odds with the modernity of the material. Yet it works... ...While the songs are varied and interesting, they still manage to keep the good ship JetKing on an even keel throughout. It definitely sounds like an album rather than a collection of disparate songs everything fits and justifies its place and position. Its like it arrived fully formed into the world and that is important for any album. It can be the difference between a good album and a bad one and JetKing score highly here... 9/10 --indiemusicuniverse.com
It s an impressive debut overall with a variety of fairly lo-fi indie goodness on offer, and a special mention has to be for the Graham Coxon-esque dynamics-shifting on You ve Made a Big Mistake by far the most immediate track on the album. Go forth and discover just what indie rock is all about at this point in time it s a snapshot of what most bands should be aspiring to. Keep on keeping on... --whisperinandhollerin.co.uk
You woke up feeling fragile and it didn t take long before you decided that a liquid breakfast would be the only sensible course of action. A half-hearted attempt was made to line your stomach with an overpriced and decidedly third rate veggie burger. You wandered round the artificial utopia of the festival site but felt you had very little in common with the hordes who shared the space with you. You were beginning to think Just what am I doing here? but then some time in the early afternoon a synth-heavy rock band wrapped their anthems around you and suddenly the world didn t seem like such a frightening place. In fact you were really starting to enjoy yourself. This is the role I can imagine Jetking fulfilling in the life of a music fan having listened to their album Theories to Suit Facts from start to finish. Jetking are one of those bands who have a recognisable sound yet not one who you can instantly compare any other bands to with good reason. In the Land of the Monkeys has soundtracked a goals montage on Soccer AM... and to be fair any of the other songs on this album could serve the same purpose. Interestingly, You ve Made a Big Mistake is one of the most memorable tracks here and is one in which the synths are kept to an occasional dose of squelching, which sounds a little out of place. I say this because the synth is a huge part of their sound and undoubtedly adds a crucial ingredient to many of the tracks here. In the Land of the Monkeys is also a high point with its choppy Modest Mouse-esque guitar riff and stadium chorus. Freefall is a slice of aural MDMA with sounds that bring to mind Jean Michel Jarre dosed up on Relentless. Pretty Please whacks a heavy dose of fuzz on the guitar and coupled with a cascading bassline the result is something like a more English Pixies. --live-music-scene.co.uk
About the Artist
JetKing have been a trailblazing band from the very beginning. Their story is littered with newsworthy snippets such as selling out their first ever live performance at the famous Louisiana in Bristol through word-of mouth, the hacking of their MySpace page in 2007 which led to lots of media exposure and an interview with Time Magazine, their endorsement by Bristol-based guitar maker Roberts, the original demo of their track In the Land of Monkeys being used over the goal roundups on Sky Sports One in September 2008, the list goes on.
