Product Description

Review

'Much has changed in educational leadership and management since the first edition appeared in 1986. Preparation for leadership in schools, colleges, and universities has radically changed in many parts of the world during these decades. Throughout this period, the editions of Tony Bush's book have remained a significant resource for scholars, students and practitioners, reflecting both continuities and evolution in leadership and management theory. This latest edition provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the range of relevant theory and ways of thinking about the interplay of different theories. It is a foundational text for all those interested in how educational leadership and management can be understood and developed' -
Professor Jacky Lumby,
University of Southampton

'At a time when education is about instrumental delivery and can do

enthusiasm for reforms, it is heartening to see that a book about

theory and theorising is in its fourth edition. Tony Bush's focus on

helping the field to describe and understand practice is helpful and

crucial for professional learning and development' -
Professor Helen M Gunter
University of Manchester

For those studying or interested in Educational Leadership, this is the perfect book. Being a post graduate student, I was in need of a book that could inform me for the tentions and believes in Educational Leadership in the UK. This book describes in a very clear and detailed way the models of leadership in schools so as for teachers and leaders to understand and have a clear idea of what exactly is Leadership. It may be focused in the UK leadership but it helps readers imagine what would leadership be like in their own cultural context.

This book gives a concise overview of educational leadership in its broadest sense. I chose the book in the first instance as I am interested in educational leadership and management within HE. Whilst this book relates to all forms of educational leadership, I felt that it swayed more to school leadership per se rather than generic educational leadership or HE specific. That said, it is still a very good read which will have those leading education in schools and other educational sectors reflecting on their leadership and management styles and the influence politics and policy plays.

I was apprehensive before reading this book that it would be too heavy and hard to read. I was wrong, it was easy and interesting to read and gave me some useful insights into the styles of leadership being used by me and those around me. I would recommend this book to anyone who is studying school leadership, contemplating taking a leadership role or currently working as a leader.
