This book is truly moving. It tells the story of Felix, a 10 year old boy who has landed himself the huge responsibility of looking after a 6 year old girl. (Read Once to find out more). They are captured by the Nazis and put on a train to a death camp. He and the little girl decide to jump off the train. They survive this dangerous risk and head to the nearby forest. They encounter many horrific acts and witness what no one should witness. They meet a woman who lives in the forest and kindly takes them in. Don't forget to get a pile of tissues out because this book delivers a heart wrenching truth. I felt this book did not contain enough hope but it would not put me off the entire book as it is beautifully written. This was an inspiring book that made me feel extremely privileged.

I bought this book after reading a review in the Sunday Times, i was not disappointed. If you read and enjoyed The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and Once you will definately enjoy this follow on book. Then is a must read after Once, i think it's the better of the 2 books. It's wonderful. Great for adults and older childen due to some very upsetting chapters.

I was required to read ONCE for my Master's degree. I could not put it down. It is powerful and extremely thought provoking. I met Mr Gleitzman earlier this year before I had read the book and had I known how beautiful this text is I would have thanked him on behalf of all readers for giving us a classic story that is honest and real.

Unrealistic and badly written
I have read this book, and I found the punctuation a little wrong in certain places. Felix's emotions are also a little twisted and I imagine in real life Felix would have acted... Read more

Best book!
You could never get bored reading this book. It is sad, exciting and funny all at the same time. Also,it is the best book I've read in ages and I would thoroughly recommend it!
