Product Description

Tracking the 30-year career of The Partridge Family's greatest star, Then and Now is a comprehensive compendium of the tunes which set the world alight from the early 1970s onwards. Ranging from the three-minute Partridge pop nuggets of "I Think I Love You" and "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" to solo hits such as "Cherish" and "Rock Me Baby", it's easy to hear why Cassidy's sold over 25 million albums worldwide. Surprisingly there are some notable exclusions on Then and Now such as "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted," and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do". Thankfully the pulsating 1985 comeback song "The Last Kiss" is included. The later part of the collection includes more recent material such as "Sheltered In My Arms" where Dave drops his usual Cliff Richard style vocals in favour of those resembling Rick Astley, and "Ricky's Tune" a Faithless style trip-hop track proving that he's still just as much "now" as "then". "No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross" is another new production that coincidentally was written by Simon Climie (aka Climie Fisher) and Lulu. In an attempt to woo the kids again there's also a rather feeble version of "Could It Be Forever", re-recorded with pop stars Hear'Say. Apart from this slightly shaky ending an essential collection for fans, and an excellent introduction to the work of one of teeny-pop's first pin-ups. --John Galilee

Product Description

In the first half of the 70s David Cassidy was the biggest teen idol in the world, selling over 25 million records. It all started in the U.S. where he was given the lead in The Partridge Family and the rest is history. All his major hits are included in this package plus new tracks, including the bonus track Could It Be Forever his duet with Hearsay. This is the first time there has been a David Cassidy ultimate collection on CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A super album 1 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This CD Contains 22 tracks including just about every solo hit in the UK plus a host of partridge family hits and songs. And if that wasn't enough it contains some new songs and covers!
Firstly just about all the tracks have been (Studio) re-recorded by David today, which is so refreshing and some of them give a different angle on the song so well known. The result is stunning!! eg Lyin to Myself; Could It Be Forever. 'The Last Kiss' is an Original recording from 1985 taken from the Romance Album, as well as 'No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross', 'Sheltered In Your Arms', 'Ricky's Tune' from Old Dog New Trick. Fans of Hear'Say will get a kick out of the dueted version of 'Could It Be Forever' however I feel that different voices don't mix with the feeling of the song as it was written for a solo.
As most of the Partridge/Cassidy solos original recordings (from the early 70's) are available elsewhere a compilation of these re-recordings is a bonus to David's vast talent as a singer. Well done David for these new recordings! I'm sure fans will welcome this CD.
I guess what's needed too is re-issues of all David's Solo albums on CD. This would be brill!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cassidy's Back!!! 9 Oct 2001
Format:Audio CD
For years, fans have waited for David's original recordings to be re-released on CD. While many of the Partridge albums have been reissued, to date only one of David's 70s albums has made it to CD - the hugely successful "Cherish". This release is 2001 take on most of David's earlier hits and is the next best thing to the originals. The backing tracks largely remain true to the originals but David has put a fresh stamp on the lead vocals. There are several new recordings too. Stand out tracks in my view are "I Write The Songs", "Rock Me Baby", "Some Kind Of A Summer", "Cherish", "Could It Be Forever", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Cry", "Ricky's Tune", "No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross" - damn it, they're all excellent. David is in fine voice throughout!! As I write this review, the CD is #7 first week in on the National Top 40. A stunning result for a stunning album and a must for all David Cassidy fans who would love to take the journey from Then to Now!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Im Just a Daydreamer ! 17 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
Yes, I am a Daydreamer, and my mind floated back to the hazy mellow days of the 70s when the world was a good place to live in as a child/teenager, and many happy hours could be spent in
your bedroom drooling at the David or Donny posters and enjoying the music that they produced. Now, all those lovely far-off
memories come flooding back with the strains and melodies of
Mr Cassidy's simplistic ballads on CD....Its quite right that he should be singing them as he is now, as we are how we are now
listening to these tunes and he is bringing them up to date
without losing too much of the sing-a-long style that we knew and loved. Could It Be Forever ? No it was just those wonderful, memorable 70s years that mean a lot to us 30 or 40 somethings, and How Can I Be Sure ? Thanks David ! You wrote or sang the songs that made Us Young Girls Cry and Old Women Happy !!

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I loved it! 25 Feb 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
How is it I can hardly remember what I did yesterday, and yet could remember every word of nearly every track on the album?!
If I had try to write a list of David Cassidy songs I would have struggled to make more than four, and yet once the music started it all came rushing back to me!This is warm nostalgia at its best, and I use the album like medicine- I only have to put it in the CD player to feel so much better. Beautiful voice conjuring beautiful memories. Thanks David!

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back David Cassidy 16 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Cassidy's fans from the 70's are still his fans now and this much loved singer is a welcome sight back in the record shops. A true Cassidy fan will love this new albumn with some very good new songs as well as the longed for classics. Cassidy had shown that he is not just a voice from the past but also a voice for the future. Having said that, I was a bit disappointed with the new version of Cherish, a favourite of mine, but a bit of change is acceptable I suppose! I am delighted that his songs have been released on CD and I secretly hope that some of his other songs previously recorded on LP will also get to go on a CD. This CD offers a beautiful selection of songs as the title suggests, old and new and I expect this one will be in the shops for a long time. A must for all of Cassidy fans and with a very good duet with the band Hearsay could well earn him a few more younger fans.

To any fellow former DC fans who look at this CD and are not sure whether to bother buying it or not - my advice is YES OF COURSE. Although it contains mostly golden old favourites - which like me, you may have recently bought when finding old Partridge Family albumns finally released on CD - the tracks on this CD are in fact NEW recordings of the old songs, as you find out when you start singing along and things don't sound exactly the same as they used to! But that is not bad! It proves the lad can still sing just as well, if not better! He does an interesting thing with "Cherish", in a very throaty rendition which is perhaps a little overdone, but very effective nonethless as he appears to speak directly to us fans of old when he inserts extra words like "again" and "still" onto the end of the lyrics - and appears to be stating he really doesn't think any of us can possibly still be interested in him any more! No doubt if he repeats this rendition at the forthcoming concerts, it will elicit a few indignant reassuring screams from the less inhibited of us sensible married matrons in the audience! The new tracks are very good - not what we might have possibly expected from DC, but very very good. The lad has still got it! And we still want it!
