I was only very vaguely aware of the post-Van Them so when I saw this I was drawn to it to see what it was like. I did not expect anything like the original Them but I never expected this. This incarnation of them, Alan Henderson (the founder member and bass player) along with American Vocalist, guitarist and drummer Jerry Cole. The sound is pure psychedelic garage rock, it has far more in common with the Seeds or 13th Floor Elevator than with Van Morrison era Them.
The other interesting thing about this album is that the band was only officially a duo but the liner notes state that "...studio support is said to come from Ry Cooder and Jack Nitzsche." lt seem odd that they still can not confirm this 37 years later.
A Great sound if you like garage rock, buy it for the curiosity value alone, I love it!

Astonishingly, by this time they were reduced to a duo consisting of original bassist Alan Henderson and US vocalist / percussionist Jerry Cole, with studio support said to have come from Ry Cooder and Jack Nitzsche. Songs range from pounding psychedelia (`I Keep Singing') and heavy garage punk (`Lonely Weekends) to furious rock and roll (`Jo Ann') and even a country ballad (`Take A Little Time'). THEM sound combines the typical British style with an air of mystery and an atmosphere of excitement , mythical, mystical, Oriental, African, electronic and computer rhythms.

This is NOT the 1970 post-Van Morrison 'Them', but a reissue of their 1965 debut album, sometimes called 'The Angry Young Them'. That said, it's a great debut, with a mix of rhythm and blues covers and Morrison (including the classic 'Gloria') and Bert Berns originals. It's arguably the equal of anything put out by any other white-boy r&b band of the time, such as the Stones and the Animals, though it could also be argued that Morrison was then a better songwriter than Jagger and Richards.
