Product Description

Product Description

This enthralling collection of weird and wonderful tales from the world of theatre includes such unusual stories as the legendary ghost of Drury Lane, how an actor can exorcise the curse of Macbeth, and the well-known theatre manager who fried bacon and eggs in the Royal Box to feed her starving cast at the interval. If you have ever wondered whether what happens in the stalls is actually more dramatic than what happens on stage, which shows were so bad that they closed during the interval on the first night, or how the 'green room' was named, then 'Theatre's Strangest Acts' is the book for you.

About the Author

For anyone interested in the history of the theatre, this book is a must, for it
details numerous famous people and events from 'The Greeks' (534BC), right up to
the play - 'The Theatre of Blood' (National Theatre 2005),and much else on the way. Some of the telling clearly has a touch of the 'anecdotal' side to them, but
nonetheless, Sheridan Morley (son of the famous and 'robust' Robert Morley) gives
us a swift, amusing and touching glance at some great ( and tragic) performers and
performances.
It is a book that you can 'dip' into from time to time, as opposed to reading right through - for each extract rarely exceeds two pages.
Highly amusing, hugely interesting, and full of 'name dropping'- this book is a
winner !!!
