I first discovered Theatremonkey's website some years ago and to my delight they have recently published this book. It has all the same great information but is easy enough to slip into a handbag or luggage if you are doing some serious theatre going on London's West End (ideal for people visiting London perhaps for the first time and want to make the most of theatre visits).
With this book to hand, you'll never buy a ticket for a show again sitting in front of a column or only being able to see half the stage (I did it once! That was before I discovered Theatremonkey)
It has a diagram for the seating plan of each theatre in London with advice for best value tickets, best views, best seats for people needing more legroom etc
The book is divided into five sections -
(1) "Planning an Expedition" -(What's on Where? What's to See? Which to choose? When to go? Which seat?)
(2) "Ticket Buying Jungle" -(includes Box office basics etc)
(3) "Native Wisdom" - (includes Beating 'sold out' signs etc)
(4) "Theatre by Theatre Guide" - (seating plans and advice)
(5) "Other London Concert and Performance Venues" - (includes Shakespeare's Globe, O2 and Wembley Arenas etc)
Not only packed with excellent advice, it's fun to read with touches of humour. I've already bought extra copies as gifts and if you know anyone wanting to treat themselves to a show then this book is the ideal starting point. It's a very useful addition to anyone's bookshelf.
