Book Description

27 Oct 2011
THE FOOTBALL BOOK WITH A ROTTEN EDGE!They used to call it the people s game but not anymore; silent crowds, soulless all-seater stadiums, rip-off ticket pricing, corporate priorities, players diving, 24/7 fixtures, aggressive stewards, overbearing advertising, overpaid players, agents and of course - Sepp Blatter. All of these and more are the target of a relentless attack from Matthew Bazell, who asks why no-one s singing anymore. In a heartfelt personal account, Bazell examines the way in which football, both on and off the field has lost its soul to greed, but argues that, ultimately it s the supporters who have the power to reclaim the game. This new edition includes updates, pictures, new material and a special guest chapter by John Lydon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Theatre of Silence 2nd Edition 11 Nov 2011
By BIG G
Format:Paperback
The Book arrived about a week after ordering it not the 1-2 months waiting time listed, happy days. I found this book a real joy to read having been a football fan for over 32 years and having stood terraces up untill the early 90(s). The Book questions the commericalisation and hugh cost of following modern day football in England today. Johnny Lydon's Chapter recalling his experiences supporting his team from the terraces will strike a cord with fans who were lucky enough to have followed their own team on terraces and will give an insight of genuine terrace culture to the younger generation of football fans that have only experienced following their team(s) from seats at considerable cost. A must read for any footy fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelllent Read 15 Nov 2011
By JC
Format:Paperback
The book arrived 6 or 7 days after ordering (and not the 6 weeks amazon first told me!!). I have become a non atteneding football fan due to cost, lack of atmosphere, lack of terracing, being treated like a 2 year old by police and stewards. This book is a must for any true football fan. It is a great read, and once i started reading, I couldnt put the book down. It mentions the problems i have mentioned, and I was surprised to find a book that i could relate to, after all the premiership loving books and press that are normally around. Not often I say this about a book, but 10/10 for Theatre of Silence.
