Book Description

8 Jun 2012
Superfly tells the story of a group of flies and other insects who live in a dusty old house in Guildford, England, ruled over by the arrogant, egotistical blowfly Superfly. Fashion obsessed, Superfly spends his days issuing orders, keeping the lower classes in their place, and showing off to the blowsy bluebottles. When the house is sold and renovated, the insects have to find more ingenious ways to live alongside the new family. Common housefly Flora spends most of her time rescuing her silly brother. When after his birthday party he becomes stuck to an open pot of jam, Flora fears the worst. But at the last moment a stranger comes to their rescue in the form of Digger from down under. Used to lifting weights on Bondi beach, the Australian blowfly has no problem rescuing the silly boy and proving a hero in Flora’s eyes. Smuggling himself into the country for the annual Flyathlon, Digger is soon coaching the Fearless Fly team in their quest to win the 2016 Olympics. Falling in love with Flora gives the Australian blowfly the confidence to go on and win the competition, as well as teaching the insects about forgiveness and compassion. Boris bee and the Jasper twins try to throw their weight around until the Australian fly gets to the root of their problems and shows them kindness is far better that bullying.

About the Author

I am 58 going on 12 and very lucky to live in a period cottage on the edge of the Cotswolds with the love of my life husband Graham and our cute rescue dog Miss Ellie. I have a son and daughter Emma and Joe who have both grown up and flown the nest. I began writing at the age of twelve as a distraction from homework. Having spent most of my adult life in advertising both radio and publishing, my career came to an abrupt end when I had a serious car accident in 1996. Finding myself disabled with a lot of time on my hands, I once again found solace in my writing and Superfly was born. Having always loved animation and cartoons, especially when animals and insect are brought to life on screen, I believe to avoid chaos they probably live within similar moralistic constraints as us, so set about showing how I believe they would react to ever changing circumstances within our world

Review from First Edit by Dr Natasha
Thank you for this great pleasure! I cannot remember when I was so amazed by a book, both as a reader and an editor. Not only is your imagination truly fantastic, but you have created a truly universal story, with something for everyone. Little children can enjoy it for what it is - a bug story, yet youth and grown- ups can see the underlying messages that abound throughout and make this work truly inspirational. I certainly hope that you have more books planned and would be honoured to work with you on future projects. It would be my great pleasure to play a small part in such a great adventure .I only have the highest praise for your work and could keep writing on every small detail, I found it so delightful. But I will end here by letting you know that you have found a true admirer who will be first in line to buy your book .I wish you every success and hope to work with you again soon. NB What a great story !!!!!! It can be enjoyed on so many levels, hence everybody, young and old is sure to find it delightful. I'm sure you will have a great following and the publishers will be begging you for more books. Thank you for this great pleasure.
