5.0 out of 5 stars The Three Golliwogs 20 May 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
As a child this was my favourite book. I loved reading about Wiggie, Waggie and Wollie. I have recently dug this book out of the loft and intend reading it to my children, who I am sure will love the stories just as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars timeless stories.... 10 Nov 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I remember reading The Three Golliwogs as a child and recently bought it (used) for my children. The book brought back all of those magical memories and left such a warm feeling of nostalgia.
My Children love the stories, and are always asking when we can visit the Honeysuckle Cottage. :-)
I will always look after this book as I am sure they will when they have children of their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful childhood memories... 18 Oct 2012
Format:Hardcover
My mum read me this book 45 years ago after I'd had all of my milk teeth removed under a gas anaesthetic (a barbaric practice). I've not turned into a racist, a fascist, or any other social undesirable.

It is a wonderful book & I recommend it wholeheartedly irrespective of your age, race or sexual preference.

4.0 out of 5 stars zephyrman 21 Jun 2011

My daughter remembers me buying this book for her 45yrs ago, when she had had teeth removed at the local clinic. I don't think she had any happy memories of the clinic, but she had many happy memorirs of the book. So, one happy daughter.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised 13 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover
Book arrived in great condition, promptly. Only thing was it was advertised as a 1968 book "The Three Golliwogs". This book is a collectors item worth £40-£100 depending on condition. What arrived was a 1990's book titled "The Three Gollys". Not a collectors item at all. Seller was very reasonable and refunded my money and let me keep the book anyway. Stories are just as good and funny and more politically correct for todays children. But don't buy this book thinking you've found a valuable collectable at a bargain price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive 4 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Working through the Enid Blyton Rewards series, this was always going to be a tricky one.

The stories are repetitive, all based on the fact that they look alike and nobody realises they are different. I find myself censoring words like 'black'.

Is it racist? Perhaps, but it is from another time that was perhaps naieve and innocent.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm not very PC but there are limits 18 Nov 2009
Format:Hardcover
If the names of the three golliwogs in this edition are wiggie waggie and wollie (or whatever it was quoted in another review) then they've clearly been changed since the copy of this I read was printed. I really should have kept hold of it as it might be worth a small fortune now.

The three gollies in the version I had were called Golly, Woggy and N*gg*r. Every story in the book (bar one) revolves round the fact that they all look the same. They go to visit their Aunt Coalblack. This book is racist in every possible way.

I'm not a very PC person but...

This book was intended for children and would instill all the attitudes and values that people have died to try to eradicate. As a work of satire for the adult market it works which is why I've given it an extra star - but that's not the way it was ever intended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh Golly 5 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book for Carol Thatcher when she was a child and it made quite an impression on her. She said to me afterwards there is nothing wrong with Golliwogs, every family should have one.
