An excellent potted history of the railway network, or as the Author describes it " a sketch of the railways of Britain". Jack Simmons is a well respected author on the subject of railways and it shows in this well researched book. The book is perhaps aimed at the less knowledgeable history or railway student, but is certainly a lead into a greater more centralised follow on. Easily assimilated text together with black&white photo's and line drawings. A welcome addition to any collection
