Wow, what a great resource! I've been working on a western campaign for some time now, and it can be hard to find info on what stores or businesses are available and how they're run, etc. The info is out there, but it takes a lot of scrounging around to find what you need. Having said that, this book is fantastic! A wide array of typical businesses are discussed, each in their own chapter. Typical floor plans are presented, along with discussions on the variations on the types of business, the types of characters that might be found in such businesses, some story hooks, typical prices for goods and services... everything you need to start filling out your old west town with some sense of consistency and purpose to the businesses therein. It is important to note that this book is intended as a resource for game master who is designing their own content - it's not really meant to have a lot of ready-made content to just dump into your game, even though there certainly is info here that can be used right away (i.e., services & equipment descriptions & price lists). There is also a fairly lengthy list of random names to use for typical western characters, and NPC stats for Deadlands, FUDGE, and the not-so-mysteriously named "world's most popular RPG" system... which I suppose one *could* interpret to be D20 Modern ;) One thing you will not find in this book is a lot of tables for randomly generating anything (other than names). The subject matter is discussed but left to the judgement of the game master.
