Format:Paperback
This anthology spans the many decades and styles of Marion Zimmer Bradley's writing career. The contents may be something of a surprise to some readers, as fantasy-oriented work is in the minority; what you will find here, however, is some excellent SF. I am always surprised that MZB is not considered a 'feminist' writer, as her work deals with themes of gender on other planets as much as does, say, Le Guin's, and many of the stories here deal with the experience of *women* in space, and yet hail from a period where the predominent mood in SF was the hard, 'boys' own adventure' type.

There is some truly interesting and perhaps startling stuff here - 'The Engine' in particular is one of the most unsettling SF stories I have read (and that's saying a lot!). There is also some more familiar territory covered, such as the Darkovan story of how Camilla joined the Free Amazons.

For stressful times when you need a good read but have only 5-10 minutes this is ideal. There are 15 short stories in all in this book. As well as the darkover location you will also find earth. I wont spoil it by giving to much away however one of my favourites involves self-sacrifice.

Deceptive Advertising 24 Oct 2010
By Elisabeth Waters - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
There is a book of MZB's short stories called THE BEST OF MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY (aka JAMIE AND OTHER STORIES). There is even a Kindle version of it The Best of Marion Zimmer Bradley: Jamie and other stories, with added introductions and an additional story. This is NOT it. This is a few of her old public-domain works, which are available for free at Gutenberg.com and similar sites, with a duplicated title. It is erroneously linked to the books with the same title, and the two reviews currently attached to it are for the book and not for this item. Also, these don't even come close to being "the best" of her work; they were written very early in her career and her skill did increase over the next few decades.

Short Stories from Darkover to Lythande... 17 July 2000
By "ferrazalves" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book presents us to several short stories written by MZB with her incredible imagination, showing many different worlds, going from Earth to Darkover. You can read one story telling about the renunciants organization(Darkover), another one is about Lythande (a blue star magician with a secret). In my opinion, the best short story in this book, is the one about the Centauru's Children - where having a baby is the same to a death sentence to the mother... Well everyone can decide what is the most interesting of the 15 short stories of this book and vote in it.
a good read 8 Feb 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. MZB says short stories are not her forte but these are terrific. In addition, they include lots of sci fi. I am used to reading her fantasy genre. I thought these were top quality.
