Product Description

For years experts have been telling Americans what to eat and what not to eat. Fat, they told us, was the enemy. Then it was salt, then sugar, then cholesterol... and on it goes.

Americans listened and they lost -- but not their excess fat. What they lost was their health and waistlines. Americans are the fattest people on earth... and why? Mainly because of the food they eat.

In this scientific and revolutionary book, based on Nobel Prize-winning research, medical visionary and former Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher Dr. Barry Sears makes peak physical and mental performance, as well as permanent fat loss, simple for you to understand and achieve.

With lists of good and bad carbohydrates, easy-to-follow food blocks and delicious recipes, The Zone provides all you need to begin your journey toward permanent fat loss, great health and all-round peak performance. In balance, your body will not only burn fat, but you'll fight heart disease, diabetes, PMS, chronic fatigue, depression and cancer, as well as alleviate the painful symptoms of diseases such as multiple sclerosis and HIV.

This Zone state of exceptional health is well-known to champion athletes. Your own journey toward it can begin with your next meal. You will no longer think of food as merely an item of pleasure or a means to appease hunger. Food is your medicine and your ticket to that state of ultimate body balance, strength and great health: the Zone.

The Zone diet is a great diet. I bought this book and struggled to follow the recipes although the results were worth it. However, earlier this year another book was published called The Formula by Gene Daoust. This works on the principle of the Zone but the recipes are much simpler and easier to do - and absolutely delicious. I would recommend anyone from England planning to do this diet buys that book first it is brilliant.

As a person who loves pasta, bread, potatos and anything starchy, this book proves that those are the foods that are keeping my weight on. I started the Zone two weeks ago and have lost seven pounds. I have never felt better and have tons of energy. I am not a huge fan of vegetables, but I have found a couple of green things that are not horrible! This diet is a no brainer, plenty of good protein,such as fish, poultry etc. and lots of fruit and veggies. I think the critics need to lighten up, this is the healthiest I have ever eaten. I don't know how people can say it's a high protein, low carb diet, when everything is so balanced. It's the TYPE of carbo's that matter. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, except maybe a few pounds!

How can you suffer from it when a good meal consists of 4-5 oz of low-fat meat and enough vegetables to choke a friggin' horse? The Zone has somehow developed a rumor that it is a low-carb diet, but that's just not true -- It's a balanced carb diet. Eating low-glycemic indicator carbs like fruits and veggies simply make everything work better -- and allow you to eat more food! without overeating. Eating a plate of pasta, which I guess some of the people above and the FDA would like us to do, is like eating a huge bowl of sugar. Humans didn't evolve eating that kind of diet, and it won't do anyone any good. Anyone that actually reads this book simply learns what the body needs, and what different types of food contain. It's no fad, it just points to some simple facts that make sense even if you don't stay in "the Zone" accurately. Instead of getting that Big Mac and fries, get the chicken sandwich and a side salad. Don't eat huge plates of pasta, and eat more vegetables. Drink sugar-free drinks, don't eat a bag of pretzels, and make sure every meal and snack you eat has some protein in it. It's not a fad, it's just moderation. There you go. The Zone. Don't worry about what the "fad-fearers" say, because they haven't read or tried it. It's not a fad -- It works and will make you a healthier person.

The higher the fiber content of a carbohydrate, the slower the rate of entry into the bloodstream. Remove the fiber of the carbohydrate and the rate of entry accelerates. So fiber is a significant factor in controlling the speed at which the body absorbs carbohydrate. "e;
