Phenomenal, international bestselling guide to Dr. Sears plan for revolutionising lifestyle through diet.

This groundbreaking book has topped the US hardback bestseller lists for months. Our paperback edition is the first time that this book is available in the UK.

Sears’ research shows the benefits of paying attention to the amount of carbohydrate in the diet and combining protein & carbohydrates in an ideal ratio. The result of paying attention to ‘bad carbohydrates’ is that hormone and insulin levels become balanced out. The Zone shows that acheiving this balance will help readers lose weight permanently, prevent heart disease, achieve maximum mental productivity and more.

Lose weight permanently
• Reset your genetic code
• Prevent disease
• Achieve maximum physical performance
• Enhance mental productivity
• Delay ageing

3.0 out of 5 stars Great diet but recipes too American 28 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
The Zone diet is a great diet. I bought this book and struggled to follow the recipes although the results were worth it. However, earlier this year another book was published called The Formula by Gene Daoust. This works on the principle of the Zone but the recipes are much simpler and easier to do - and absolutely delicious. I would recommend anyone from England planning to do this diet buys that book first it is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carbo addicts need to try this diet 4 Sep 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
As a person who loves pasta, bread, potatos and anything starchy, this book proves that those are the foods that are keeping my weight on. I started the Zone two weeks ago and have lost seven pounds. I have never felt better and have tons of energy. I am not a huge fan of vegetables, but I have found a couple of green things that are not horrible! This diet is a no brainer, plenty of good protein, such as fish, poultry etc. and lots of fruit and veggies. I think the critics need to lighten up, this is the healthiest I have ever eaten. I don't know how people can say it's a high protein, low carb diet, when everything is so balanced. It's the TYPE of carbo's that matter. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, except maybe a few pounds!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ketosis is IMPOSSIBLE when eating in the Zone 21 Oct 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
How can you suffer from it when a good meal consists of 4-5 oz of low-fat meat and enough vegetables to choke a friggin' horse? The Zone has somehow developed a rumor that it is a low-carb diet, but that's just not true -- It's a balanced carb diet. Eating low-glycemic indicator carbs like fruits and veggies simply make everything work better -- and allow you to eat more food! without overeating. Eating a plate of pasta, which I guess some of the people above and the FDA would like us to do, is like eating a huge bowl of sugar. Humans didn't evolve eating that kind of diet, and it won't do anyone any good. Anyone that actually reads this book simply learns what the body needs, and what different types of food contain. It's no fad, it just points to some simple facts that make sense even if you don't stay in "the Zone" accurately. Instead of getting that Big Mac and fries, get the chicken sandwich and a side salad. Don't eat huge plates of pasta, and eat more vegetables. Drink sugar-free drinks, don't eat a bag of pretzels, and make sure every meal and snack you eat has some protein in it. It's not a fad, it's just moderation. There you go. The Zone. Don't worry about what the "fad-fearers" say, because they haven't read or tried it. It's not a fad -- It works and will make you a healthier person.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I knew about this years ago! 19 May 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I have been working out for years and within the last year I have been running over 12 miles a week, weight training, taking boot camp classes at my gym as well as tai box classes three times a week. I thought I was eating healthy. But I could never lose any weight. I grow up eating bread with every meal. I originaly read Dr. Atkin's boot the New Diet Revolution. I found this boot to be to strigent for my liking. I was feeling tired and weak. I read the Zone and with in the last two weeks I lost five pounds, feel energize as well as I did not suffer from any PMS. I have told my mother about this book as well as a friend who suffers from MS. They both went out and bought the book and are begining the zone plan. This book makes it easy to follow. I was amazed it even suggested what type of fast food I could eat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, concise and easy to follow 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book will revolutionise the way you look at food - no longer is it the enemy... you can see it for what it really is... a bunch of chemicals reacting with your body in the way they've been doing for the past 100,000 years! The weight will fall off in a controlled and sustainable way (I lost 6 lbs in 4 weeks). Your only regret will be that you didn't buy it sooner!

Nearly all of the arguments against the Zone don't pan out when you actually read the book.

Sometimes I think that dieticians must be the worst mathematicians on the planet. Is this a high protein diet? No. Is there too much fat in this diet? Think about it. The Zone has far fewer calories than what the ADA recommends, so the same amount of fat and protein will equal higher percentages. This is simple math, folks. The ADA recommends that an active woman looking to lose weight eat 1800 calories, 15% of them from protein. If you do the math that's about 70 grams of protein. What does Dr. Sears recommend for the same person? 84 grams of protein (12 blocks). The difference between 70 and 84 grams of protein is a half-cup of cottage cheese. Big deal.

Now let's look at fat. To get 20% of your 1800 calories from fat, you need 40 grams of fat. How many fat grams in 12 blocks of the Zone? 36! So what's the big deal?

Dr. Sears recommends less carbohydrates, not more fat or protein, which lowers the calorie intake without sacrificing much needed protein and essential fatty acids. The carbohydrate intake is adequate, particularly in the form of low glycemic foods such as fruits and vegetables. Anybody who feels "hungry" on the Zone is doing it wrong. Either you're not eating enough blocks, or you're not eating your veggies. You have to eat mountainsof vegetables on The Zone!

Highly recommended if you want the science behind the Zone. Otherwise, you may want to read his simpler books, like Mastering the Zone and Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes.
