This DVD heralds much of the best output since the sixties of lead singer Colin Blunstone and songwriter and keyboard player Rod Argent. The songs, mostly composed either by Rod Argent or other members of The Zombies or Argent are simply outstanding. Particularly worth waiting for is the Alan Parsons song "Old and Wise", beautifully sung by Colin and with a stunning ending by lead guitarist, Keith Airey. The combined careers of first The Zombies, the solo career of Colin Blunstone, the seventies progressive rock band Argent, and most recently the Blunstone/Argent re-union, ignite into a feast for the ears. This is truly a mature, experienced band of astonishing depth and perhaps most impressive of all is the passion and feeling that is expressed by all members of the band. Their music seems to spread right across the spectrum, from church and classical sounds, through blues, jazz, pop, progressive and at times heavy rock. Rod Argent's keyboard sound is prominent throughout and is awesome to listen to, but never diminishing the unique breathy, sensitive but often powerful voice of Colin Blunstone. They are supported by Argent bass player Jim Rodford, his son Steve Rodford on drums and superb session lead guitarist Keith Airey who has played with such artists as Tom Jones. This band is not a re-hashed sixties memory but a vibrant, stunning force that should be seen and heard and heard again. Simply a benchmark for rock music along with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
I fell in love with Colin Blunstone's voice and music many years ago (pregnant with my first child) and bought all the LPs available at the time. Years and life changing events came along. I never actually forgot his music, but LPs were outmoded and my player eventually died. I did ask in a few music shops if there were any Blunstone CDs on the market but met with blanks each time. Suddenly along came my computer and Amazon!! Wow! Colin you're still there...your voice still gives me the shivers and your music is alive and well. I thank you for your music. Your haunting voice sings my song. I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough. 'As far as my eyes can see' is an absolute must, but then I find it difficult to choose only one song - perhaps 'Old and Wise'? The string quartet backing on certain tracks, as ever, suit the emotion charged voice. To use a title of one of his early recordings -------------WONDERFUL !!!
Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent are just great together. The albums As Far As I Can See and Out of the Shadows are masterpieces. The concert is just capturing this creative period. The concert is not only showing beautiful songs of this two Albums. There are plenty songs from the old Zombies period. Also songs from the beautiful album Odessey & Oracle are captured here live for the first time. Also solo songs from Colin as from Alan Parsons Project and Argent are played on this DVD. It is just great to hear how nice they perform these songs.
I really like the bonus material from "2 Meter Session". It is just Colin and Rod. And you can see the love for each other in there eyes. Colin is really emotional playing the old zombies songs with Rod again. You can see that the reunion has just started. Watching this you can understand that they went on after this producing beautiful live cd's and dvd's furthermore. I am looking forwards to see Colin Blunstone next year with his solo band.
