About the Author

Simon Dougan was born in Middletown, County Armagh, and has worked as a chef all his adult life, in both London and Ireland. He opened The Yellow Door deli in Portadown in 1998, having run an enormously popular restaurant in Gilford for the four preceding years. Another deli opened in Belfast in 2000, and the company has also become Northern Ireland's number one outside caterer. The company features in the Bridgestone Guide, Georgina Campbell's Ireland and Good Food Ireland, and is a member of Euro-Toques International.

This book is definitely a hit with me. Simon's passion for food just leaps off the page; but it is his down to earth and easy approach to enjoying food that really got me drooling over the recipes. His fun and quirky names for some of his dishes appealed to me too (such as "whilst getting the paper's breakfast"). He has a great section with tips on catering for parties as well as a section on the often overlooked cheese course. This book is unlike most of the others in my stash in that I will actually be cooking from it and covering it in sticky fingerprints instead of looking at glossy pictures of perfect food i could never recreate. ps the raspberry white choc muffins are fool proof 15 minute wonders and i have some perfectly formed little muffin love handles to prove it
xx

Format: Hardcover
This is a beautifully produced and illustrated cookery book. You don't need to live in Belfast to appreciate the food cooked by the Yellow Door restaurant and deli if you have this book as you can produce something similar in your own kitchen. There is a short history of the Yellow Door and how it came into existence followed by the recipes divided into the following sections:
Breakfasts
Deli Favourites
First Courses
Main Courses
The End of the Meal
Parties
There is also a useful directory and an index. The party section contains some good advice about catering for parties as well as the recipes themselves.

The author recommends using the freshest possible ingredients and always using butter, cream and olive oil rather than worrying about low fat alternatives. This is real cookery with the feel good factor. Forget calories and dieting and just enjoy these recipes. I would recommend the chicken liver pate recipe - easy to make and much nicer than mass produced.

I particularly like the breakfast section as breakfast always seems a neglected meal. These recipes are mainly quick and easy to make - they just take a bit of forethought. A good breakfast makes it easier to face the day and I shall definitely be trying some of the dishes listed.

I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book but it is definitely worth buying for anyone who loves cooking - or even just reading cookery books.

Format: Hardcover
I BOUGHT THIS BOOK AFTER BEING A FAN OF YELLOW DOOR FOOD FOR YEARS. I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED AS I OFTEN BUY RECIPE BOOKS AND THEN NEVER END UP MAKING ANY OF THE RECIPES. I HAVE MADE QUITE A FEW RECIPES FROM THE BOOK ALREADY AND HAVE BOUGHT THREE COPIES FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHATEVER THEIR SKILL LEVEL OR INTEREST IN FOOD. THE RECIPES CAN BE USED EVERY DAY OR FOR SOPHISTICATED DINNER PARTIES. THE CHAMPAGNE MOJITOS ARE MUCH TOO DELICIOUS AND THEREFORE LETHAL BY THE WAY.
