From the Back Cover

A FIFTY-YEAR OLD SECRET WILL NOT DIE

Renowned nuclear weapons researcher, Dr. Gregory, is not only dead – he's been charred to a radioactive cinder in his laboratory at the Edward Teller Nuclear Research Facility near Oakland, California. Since this is a death on Federal property, Mulder and Scully are hastily called in. As FBI agents who specialise in unexplained phenomena, they are the investigators of the 'X-Files', strange and inexplicable cases which are also mysteries that the FBI doesn't want solved.

As Mulder and Scully begin their frustrating work, they confront a tight-lipped Federal bureaucracy whose job it is to stop questions before they are asked. One by one, Mulder and Scully hit dead ends, closed security clearances, and classified documents that no one wants them to see. But that doesn't stop them from ripping the lid of Dr. Gregory's illegal project – a new type of flash nuclear explosive that has all the destructive power of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs, but with a new design that leaves virtually no radioactive fallout. As they feverishly work to uncover why Dr. Gregory and two others unrelated to his research have died, it becomes clear that this twisted puzzle has fatal consequences for the entire world.

Format:Paperback
This is the second X-Files title that i've read, the first being "Antibodies". In "Ground Zero" the author demonstrates clear understanding/opinion into Mulder and Scully's relationship and their interdependance on one another. This is presented is a fairly stylised yet believable manner, with both characters existing as seeminlg intellignet entities, not merely as narrative devices, as in "Antibodies". So, if you're a fan of the relationship between Mulder and Scully, this title shouldn't dissapoint. The plot and characters themselves are not quite as compelling as those in "Antibodies", but the overall effect is one of a good, solid and genuinely ambitious storyline. This novel certainly does not have the gritty realism it could have, but makes for a nice few days' reading nonetheless. Recommended.

This was the first X-Files novel I had read and at first I was doubtful that the books could even interest me as much as the series could. My option changed very quickly. After reading the first two chapters I was hooked! The story was gripping from start to end and the story as a whole was anything but predictable. Every X-Files fan should read this book!

Great x-files story 29 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
Fantastic plot, scientific but with the expected mythical twist; great writing: Kevin Anderson is my favourite when it comes to X-Files narratives; loved the ethical dilema created in the story between scientific progress vs humanitarianism.
A real page turner: good old fashion investigation mixed with some serious contemporary issues of warfare at all costs.
