Synopsis

The Wrong Door is a daring sketch show set in a parallel universe; a fantastic world governed by the laws of comedy – not nature – and where special effects seen in the movies and on TV are part of everyday life. The result is a sketch show in which literally anything can happen. In this world, viewers can meet the Booze Fairies, the Wizard of Oswestry, the World's Most Annoying Creature and a love-struck dinosaur called Phillip. Here, superheroes, wizards, dinosaurs and monsters casually go about their business amongst the daily irritations of explosions, disasters, battles, chases and driving lessons.

Combining the talents of Britain’s funniest writers and performers, including Matt Berry (The IT Crowd), Tom Price, Rasmus Hardiker (Lead Balloon, Saxondale), Ingrid Oliver (Plus One, Material Girl), Myanna Buring (Lesbian Vampire Killers), Brian Blessed (Black Adder), Joel Fry (Massive) and Dom Joly (Trigger Happy TV) and with its genre-busting mix of celebrity cameos, unimaginable locations and impossible visual effects, The Wrong Door heralds a brave new world of comic possibility.

Underrated ! 15 Sep 2010
Criminally overlooked at the time, this is one that really should have made more of a splash.

For 6 episodes it combined some genuinely inventive ideas with CGI effects (not Hollywood standard but good enough.)
An unsuitable boyfriend is portrayed as a Tyrannosaurus Rex who eats the family dog when visiting the parents; a waiter advises against ordering the 'Death by Chocolate' for the reason that it always ends in the diner being killed by a chocolate ninja; Brian Blessed leads city-commuters/turned pirates in railway battles where ships are replaced by ships attacking each other along the branch lines.

The large cast restrain themselves from overacting and although at least one episode falls flat, they all demand repeat viewing. It's surprisingly subtle - look out for Perky Girl geeing herself up for the Xfactor style suditions in Super Hero Tryouts.

Also includes a fair ration of swearing, smut and gore for the coarser viewer.

There probably won't be another series so give this one a go.
