Book Description

6 April 2009
The IT Skeptic is a commentator on IT's sillier moments, especially those related to ITSM in general and ITIL in particular. If you are reading this you have probably already seen the blog, the IT Skeptic, but in case you haven't, it is at www.itskeptic.org. It is a notorious blog. It has attracted unflattering descriptions of the IT Skeptic; strained (but I hope not broken) a few friendships; annoyed one or two people that I am happy to have annoyed; and killed the conversation at parties. This book is a collection of extracts from the blog, some of them direct quotes and others merged, revised and edited. We had to draw the line somewhere so we drew it at the end of 2008. A few other pieces come from the blog's newsletter The Skeptical Informer, articles by the author , and the author's other books Introduction to Real ITSM and Owning ITIL(r).

About the Author

The IT Skeptic is the pseudonym of Rob England, an IT consultant and commentator. Although he works around the ITIL industry, he is self-employed and his future is not dependant on ITIL - he has nothing to sell you but the ideas in this book. Rob is the newsletter editor for itSMFnz, the professional body for IT Service Management (ITIL) practitioners. Rob was awarded the inaugural New Zealand IT Service Management Champion award in 2011 by itSMFnz, voted the best speaker at the 2011 itSMFnz national conference, and is acknowledged as a contributor to the ITIL 2011 core book Service Strategy. He is the author of a popular blog The IT Skeptic at www.itskeptic.org, a humorous book Introduction to Real ITSM, and a number of internet articles taking a critical look at IT's absurdities, especially those relating to ITIL. He is also a paid-up Skeptic. He lives with his wife and son in a small house in a small village in a small country far away.
