Book Description

Carl Panzram was gang-raped at the age of 14 and by way of revenge forcibly sodomized more than a thousand boys and men as well as committing over 20 murders.

Ed Kemper shot his grandmother once in the head and twice in the back and went on to murder his grandfather, his mother, her friend and six female hitch-hikers.

Jerry Brudos strangled Jan Whitney in his house and left her body dangling from the ceiling for several days.

Pietro Pacciani got 13 years in prison for killing a travelling salesman who had slept with his fiancée. Not only did Pacciani stab the man 19 times, but he also raped the corpse.

The World's Most Evil Psychopaths provides a concise, yet detailed look at some of the most dangerous individuals who have ever lived. Starting with examples of the earliest recorded psychopaths, author John Marlowe presents a carefully chosen cross-section of history's most infamous criminals, whose fascinating life stories are viewed with an unflinching gaze, making for a chilling, but engrossing read.

I expected more to be honest, there is just a page or two on each person. Disappointing book not worth buying

4.0 out of 5 stars Evil Psycopaths 7 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I generally read this type of encyclopaedia as a means to obtaining the book should the short version usually contained in these types of books on one particular serial killer are either unknown to me or a book I wish to revisit-

Most of my reading material has been sourced this way so I had read most of the individual books on almost all if the serial killers in this book-

There are a couple of names which are new to me and i will search to see if there is a full version book published.

Having said that , this book was fascinating and interesting to the point i could not out it down

4.0 out of 5 stars serial killing is nothing new... 21 Feb. 2013
By N.O.
Format:Paperback
What I particularly like about this book is the way it delves into history, showing that serial killing is nothing new. Marlowe provides interesting accounts of people I'd never heard of, like Gilles de Rais of France and Elizabeth Báthory of Hungary, who were at it in the 15th and 16th centuries respectively. In fact, it would be good to see him do a book purely on historically psychopaths.

I found myself looking for explanations for these appalling events but it was not easy. Violent home backgrounds were common, but good homes also produced killers. Most but not all the killings covered here were by males. Getting sexual satisfaction from killing suggests more than environmental causes. Mass school killings seem to involve frustration and revenge; but of course many people will have had some negative school experiences without resorting to killings.

There is a good bibliography and some photographs of the killers. The killings are grouped under various headings (serial killers, lust killers etc). The psychopathic behaviours described here are obviously abnormalities - partly defined by the horrifying events themselves.
