More About the Author

A.A. Milne grew up in a school - his parents ran Henley House in Kilburn, for young boys - but never intended to be a children's writer. Pooh he saw as a pleasant sideline to his main career as a playwright and regular scribe for the satirical literary magazine, Punch.

Writing was very much the dominant feature of A.A. (Alan Alexander)'s life. He joined the staff of Punch in 1906, and became Assistant Editor. In the course of two decades he fought in the First World War, wrote some 18 plays and three novels, and fathered a son, Christopher Robin Milne, in 1920 (although he described the baby as being more his wife's work than his own!).
Observations of little Christopher led Milne to produce a book of children's poetry, When We Were Very Young, in 1924, and in 1926 the seminal Winnie-the-Pooh. More poems followed in Now We Are Six (1927) and Pooh returned in The House at Pooh Corner (1928). After that, in spite of enthusiastic demand, Milne declined to write any more children's stories as he felt that, with his son growing up, they would now only be copies based on a memory.

Simply Wonderful 11 May 2010
By Pummanuel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I am in the process of building up my 4-year-old daughter's library and is in the search for classics with coloured illustrations. I wanted to get Winnie the Pooh for some time but either

(1) it's an incomplete collection or
(2) it's a complete collection but bundled together weighing more than 4 pounds or
(3) it's a complete collection, divided into 4 volumes but with black & white illustrations.

This book fulfills all of my requirements - complete collection, light enough for a child to hold and carry about, and comes with beautiful coloured illustrations. To my delight, the paper is of very good quality.

I bought it @ $33 when there was a special promotion, so I found it a REAL value-for-money.

A must-have childrens' classic 25 Aug 2011
By Cara - Published on Amazon.com

These are very beautiful books with color added to the original black sketch illustrations. They are wonderfully reproduced on high-quality thick, bright white paper. These classic children's books are for an older child than the disney books are marketed toward. My daughter just turned 7, and we are reading them all at bedtime every night. She really looks forward to hearing these stories. She is old enough to catch all the humor, which really is geared toward a child about her age. My father read them to me at about 7, as well. It's nice to have some children's stories from a simpler time to share together-- tales that do not espouse the modern emphasis on consumerism and early advanced sexuality. I highly recommend these books. Unfortunately, mine came with remainder marks, and I would have paid more to have a set without those as we will probably save these books. I wish the seller would have noted that in the description.

Winnie The Pooh Deluxe Gift Box 12 May 2013
By I rely on Reviews - Published on Amazon.com

These are a set of five Winnie the Pooh books - Four written by A.A. Milne and one sequel "Return to the Hundred Acre Wood." It seems it has the blessings of the Pooh Properties Trust. Purists may not appreciate this sequel. To me, it tries, but doesn't completely work.
I bought this set for the rest of the books at a bargain price and am happy with the quality of book, page and print. And yes, for the love of Winne-ther-Pooh and friends.

If you like the original Winnie the Pooh series, then these quality books and colored illustrations will be a welcome addition to your library. I love them and so do my kids. We've read these every night for a month or so and my 6 year old especially loves them.

A beautiful set of the original Winnie The Pooh series. The illustrations are in color and the paper quality is excellent. Bought them for a Christmas present for my 10 year old grand daughter, she was very happy!
