About the Author

Englishman, Paul Hansford, has been working in football journalism for the better part of the last 20 years. Starting out as a work experience 'flunky' for cult magazine 90 Minutes, he secured a staff job there before moving on to the iconic Shoot! magazine as a staff writer in 1997. After moving to Australia in 1999, he began work for travel magazine TNT but continued to write about sport and football. In 2005, Paul took the job as editor of Australian FourFourTwo, launching the worldrenowned football magazine franchise Down Under. He oversaw the launch of the website covering two World Cup finals (Germany 2006, South Africa 2010). Now based in Denmark, Paul continues to write about sport and football for magazines around the world.

I read this book just before the start of the Brazil 2014 World Cup to get me in the mood and I am glad to say that it achieved its 'goal'. The book pretty much covers everything including each World Cup, the greatest games and players, incidents and controversies. The written format is in small bites so you can dip in and out of it. It is well written with a good sense of humour. A well recommended book for football fans even if you thought you knew everything about the greatest sporting event in the world.

Easy to read and glance at the World Cup's finest (and ugliest) moments! 2 July 2014
By Naische FULENA - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Easy to read and glance at the World Cup's finest moments! I really enjoyed how the author is not scared to state his own personal opinions, even if they are rather judgemental. I read this in one night. Full of the finest and ugliest moments through out the World Cup since its origins and how it began as a European affair and how the English were arrogant vis-à-vis this new association. Who would thought that politics from Mussolini to Pinochet would be involved? It kind of sheds light as to how Qatar got to be the next host. If you are like me and enjoy great football stories, growing up with many of these moments or heard the stories about these legends passed on, then this definitely puts it all into perspective.
Pedestrian, been -done- a -million- times -before, book ... 25 July 2014
By John Van Den Akker - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Pedestrian, been -done- a -million- times -before, book. Obviously published purely as a 2014 world cup tie in. Basically just a brief rehash of past world cups and the players that have featured in them. Save your money and look elsewhere.
