Book Description

4 July 2013

'Since Bob has appeared, I've made huge strides in my life. For more than a decade I was a homeless drug addict. I was lost to the world and had forgotten what was important in life. Now I've got myself back on my two feet, but as I put the past behind me, I'm still stepping unsteadily into the future. I still need help in the right direction. Bob is always there to offer guidance and friendship.'

James and his street cat Bob have been on a remarkable journey together. In the years since their story ended in the bestselling A STREET CAT NAMED BOB James, with Bob's help, has begun to find his way back to the real world.

Almost every day, Bob provides moments of intelligence, bravery and humour, at the same time opening his human friend's eyes to important truths about friendship, loyalty, trust - and the meaning of happiness.

In the continuing tale of their life together James shows the many ways in which Bob has been his protector and guardian angel through times of illness, hardship, even life-threatening danger.

As they high five together for their crowds of admirers, James knows that the tricks he's taught Bob are nothing compared to the lessons he's learnt from his street-wise cat.

Review

Close proximity to animals does wonders for your mental health. Close proximity to this book will do wonders for it, too. (Daily Mail)

James writes with searing honesty ... it is an un-put-down-able book. (The Daily Mews)

The ultimate 'feel good' tale of how very, very special the bond between a man and his cat can be. (Your Cat magazine)

The second instalment from one of north London's most loved double acts... The long-awaited sequel picks up where the first book left off, telling the story of what happened to this odd couple of cool cats after their initial success. It's another tale of friendship and the value of cats, complete with lovely illustrations. (Evening Standard)

Bowen writes with compelling, brutal honesty. How refreshing that he does not sugar-coat himself, his actions or the events he describes... The World According To Bob is an eye-opening and insightful look at what it can be like to live on the streets... After the hardships of his past, it's an incredibly emotional read. A modern-day urban happy ending beckons and as it turns out Bowen was right to hope... Ranging from heartbreakingly sad to laugh-out-loud funny, The World According To Bob is a life-affirming story of sheer human strength in the face of adversity. It shows that sometimes you can find light in the darkest of places and friendship in the most unusual of creatures. By the time their story comes to a close, Bowen and Bob will have you reaching for a box of tissues. The tears may be streaming down your face and making a mess of your shirt but you'll be too happy to care. (Daily Express)

Demonstrates their remarkable bond, and how much joy a loving cat can bring (Yours magazine)

If you are a fan of the first book and want a slightly humorous look into the further adventures of the street cat then you'll definitely enjoy this book (Press Association)

Since becoming an internet sensation, followed by James' first autobiographical book, A Street Cat Named Bob - which shot to the top of the bestseller list in 2012 - Bob fans all over the world have been waiting with bated breath for the sequel... Despite giving an honest account of the hardship of life on the streets, The World According to Bob is often humorous... Ultimately, the journey of James and Bob underlines the impact that animals can have on our lives and the hope they can bring (Pet Focus - Winter 2013)

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable and poignant read 14 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read 'A Street Cat Named Bob' in one sitting in April last year and was completely hooked. I've shared my 47-year life with cats (not owned - you never 'own' a cat) so I know how endearing, intelligent, independent yet therapeutic they can be. However, I have never met a cat anything like Bob.

Having enjoyed James' first book so much, I was delighted that a second one had been published but a little nervous that sequels can sometimes be disappointing. How wrong could I have been. This is even better. It's written with a lot more confidence, which James obviously is starting to have in himself and that is wonderful. Bob is still the amazing cat that will happily ride on public transport, walk around the city streets and fight off muggers yet still does cat things like bring in gifts of dead mice and live frogs.

I'm really starting to believe that there is 'Karma' but, in James' case, it may be backwards as what he and Bob are doing now for the Blue Cross and the homeless charities are the 'good deeds' that he initially thought he was rewarded for, but couldn't remember, was meeting Bob.

I'm a fan of 'The Big Issue' and my husband and I regularly buy from our local seller, yet I'm appalled at the treatment James received and reported in this book. The support you're still getting from him is honorable but get your act together!

5.0 out of 5 stars James and Bob 4 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book excellent and just couldn't put it down. It is a very well written book with James telling it as it is. I would certainly recommend everyone read this book. I enjoyed the two previous books about James and Bob but this one is the best. I hope they continue writing more about their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars James and Bob do it again! 5 July 2013
By Oscar
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The continuing tale of a man and his cat. James and Bob have continued where their last book finished. This book makes you laugh and cry. James tells us his story, warts and all and we learn more about the amazing 'Doctor' Bob. You will have to read the book to find out all that Bob gets up to and what an incredible cat he is. Well done to the both of you for another best seller. I am now waiting for the next book and the film.

I loved the first book so much that I couldn't wait to get my hands on this follow-up. I had high expectations and I wasn't disappointed. This book sees where the other left us with more adventures as James and Bob progress along life's road.

Both James and Bob are adorable! I can't wait to get my hands on Book 3.
