Product Description

It's a typical Tuesday evening in Kilbrody.  Cathy Long is on her way to collect her drunken father from the pub.  Ozzy O'Reilly is in the graveyard, watching the Dublin bus through his binoculars.  Charlie Finn is pulling pints, when suddenly it hits him: he's bored.  And that's when the woman from the bus walks through his door and drinks herself into oblivion.  Now the whole village wants to know, who is the woman on the bus? The question is, will she tell them?

Her best book so far! 20 July 2004
By M. A. Dunnington VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is the book Pauline McLynn was meant to write. Her best work so far. Full of real characters, real emotions. Beautifully written, just the right pace to make you feel as if you belong in the village with all these rich, but quite "normal" characters. She is a great writer.....but more like this please....there is a depth and quality to this book that makes it the find of 2004!

I decided with enthusiasm to delve into this book after thoroughly enjoying SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND, a laugh out loud work by Pauline Mc Lynn. I flicked open the first pages while embarking on a train journey, and found myself being furtively glanced at as I could not restrain the open giggles. This is a wonderful book, with clever believable characters representative of many a rural town. There are very few secrets in towns like this, where everyone knows everyone else's business. Thus when the mysterious WOMAN in question gets off the bus in Kilbrody and drinks herself senseless in Finn's Pub, she attracts great curiosity from the locals eager to solve the mystery of who exactly this woman is. Bereavement, alcoholism and love are the main subjects beautifully woven together throughout these pages with such care and compassion, I simply didn't want it to end. And as ever the razor sharp humour of Pauline Mc Lynn...so evident in every page, its hard not to burst out loud laughing - the incident in the local Chemist when the big lumbering local fellow looking quizzically at the pack of batteries in his hand and tries to explain to the girl behind the counter that its DUREX he wants, not DURACELL, not to mention the other delight in the chemist with the Preparation H ointment for piles !! One of Pauline's best to date !

Fun to read 9 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
Entertaining from start to finish. I felt as if I personally knew all the characters and all their quirks. Along with the many laugh out loud moments, the story also dealt with weighty issues such as alcoholism.
All the characters were very well defined.
Good read.
