Feels like a magazine - lots of glossy pictures 13 Jun 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this as a read-aloud picture book for my four-year old daughter, who's into the movie big time. It's perfect for her, except that the binding and pages feel like a magazine, not a book. I wish it were more durable!

There's plenty of big beautiful pictures on every page straight from the movie. The text is true to the movie and reads aloud well. My only complaint is the durability - I just don't expect it to hold up to her intense scrutiny!

Update - 15 months later - my daughter lost interest after a couple of months, and I'm pleased to report that the Movie Storybook lasted not only through her interest, but through my 2 year old son's interest as well! (He prefers to skip any pages with the witch on them.)

If you're looking for an Oz book kids relate to, this is it. 23 Nov 2008
By Robert H. Murphy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is out of print so you have to expect a little wear on what you receive. However, if you buy it from Woody's, you will be pleasantly surprised with their TLC as well as getting a good clean copy. I had a heck of a time trying to find an Oz book for my grand daughter that was from the movie...this is it.

PAPERBACK "OZ MOVIE STORYBOOK" HAS GLOSSY COLOR PHOTO ILLUSTRATIONS 26 April 2011
By DEWEY M. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
You may wish to be particularly careful with this Scholastic Edition of "The Wizard Of Oz: Movie Storybook." This edition, published in 1998, should not be confused with an earlier edition published by Big Golden Books in 1989. (See my review of that edition below). They are not the same book. The Scholastic Edition is, unfortunately, a Paperback. It does resemble a magazine. My copy is in used, fair condition. As another reviewer stated, I am worried about this book's durability.
The text here is far superior to Jan Wahl's Big Golden Book Edition. The story is told in far greater detail, with a tone closer to the spirit of the MGM movie. The Sepia and Color photo illustrations are large and printed on glossy stock. The two page Sepia Spread of the Cyclone is especially impressive. Many pages also have a Rainbow-colored hue around the edges; giving everything more of a definite pop-culture vibe and kick. I just wish this book was also available in a more durable and sturdy Hardcover edition.
