I consider myself to be a feminist, and I love the charactors. Isabeau is a kindhearted dreamer with a strong spirit...almost the exact opposite of her twin sister, Iseult. Scruffy, the boy thief, and his newfound friend, Tomas, the healing boy, were adorable. I could not put the dang book down! Whoever said they almost screamed when they saw the back page, well I DID scream! I didn't even realize it was over. I finished a page, turned it, and- COMING SOON IN JUNE 1999! My best friend and her mother looked at me and laughed when I told them what was wrong. Although the plot was complicated, I had no trouble figuring out what was going on. I enjoyed the language as well. I had to translate for my friend when she read it. This is definitely one of the best books I have ever read and I can't wait for the sequel!

'The Witches of Eileanan' is not only the best fantasy book I've read in ages, it's one of the best I've ever read. It has all the elements I love, like adventure, magic, intrigue and romance, yet puts a new spin on it all. The book is beautifully written and you lose yourself in the land, which is full of strange, wondrous creatures. We lucky Aussies have already got Book 2, which is even better, but I'm now desperately waiting for the next in the series, 'cause I can't wait to find out what happens!

Mesmerds, cluricauns, nyxes, fairgean...the list of magical creatures inhabiting Eileanan seems to never end. Each species has unique magical abilities and unusual physical characteristics. This book is well written, fast paced and full of fascinating characters. The only bad thing I can say about it is that the sequel isn't due to come out until June, 1999! Kate Forsyth is a great new addition to fantasy writing and I hope this is only the beginning of a long, prolific career.

I loved this book. It grabs you, an effect other authors have to resort to cheap tricks to accomplish. I am going to go nuts waiting for the sequel to come out- the story is far from over. Isabeau is a wonderful creation- I almost cried when she got hurt! Isuelt and Bacciche (spelling (= ) are at least funny to observe, and Meghan rocks. i love strong female characters (like Lessa and Menolly from Anne McCaffrey), and this book contains a seemingly endless supply. Read it!

It's not often you stumble across a book by a first time author as good as this one! I'm never been much of a fantasy fan but my girlfriend kept waving this book in my face, saying 'read it! read it!'. Gotta say once I started it I couldn't put it down and at some parts of the book my pulse was racing and I kept having to read faster and faster. It's a beauty! I liked it so much I've started reading other fantasy books but none of them are as good as this one.

The beginning of a fantastic series. This initially starts with the story of Isabeau & Meghan, I love the way Kate describes the Pagan festivals so well, she has really gone and researched Witchcraft extremely well. This is one of the best books related to the craft I have read.

The characters are introduced to you individually telling a little about them so you can picturee them in your minds eye, Kate draws you in to this story so impeccably. There was not a great deal of action in this 1st book and she definitely leaves you hanging on wanting more and with 5 more books you get much, much more. This could, I guess be read as a stand alone but, my guess is you will want to read the rest of the series.
Absolutely fantastic!

The Irish/Scottish brogue and imagery used make this book come to life. You experience this book and not just dully read of heroics happening to another. Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms fans would love this book. It has humor and you become attached to the characters and it is almost as if they are real. This book is full of magic, heorism, quests, adventure, fighting, and sureal life forms. This book is definitely a page turner.

This has got to be one of my favorite books. The way it is written and the characters are wonderful! The characters are unique and you can really connect with their problems and their triumphs. You know who the villain is although you feel sympathetic towards her. Although there are many characters I had no trouble keeping track of them. If you EVER decide to pass by this book DON'T! It is a GREAT book!
