Book Description

15 May 2008

For over 2000 years, Buddhist psychology has offered invaluable insights into the nature of the heart and mind, and transformed the way many people around the world handle life's challenges. But the ancient texts on which these remarkable teachings are based can be difficult to penetrate for modern seekers. Now, drawing on his experience as a monk trained in Thailand, Burma and India, as well as his expert psychology practice, Jack Kornfield provides an accessible, definitive guide to Buddhism for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike.

This important new work is in the tradition of his classic works A Path with Heart and After the Ecstasy, the Laundry, offering practical tools to coping with modern life and dealing with emotions such as fear, anger and shame. Kornfield also shares the illuminating stories of his students and fellow practitioners, as well as his own journey towards enlightenment, including his recovery from a violence-filled childhood.

Here is a rare treasure that will give readers greater access to the secret beauty within - and without.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful 8 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the first of Jack Kornfield's books I've read and I was so moved and changed by the very experience of reading and reflecting upon it.He writes about the precepts of Buddhism in clear language offering honest examples of Westerners' experience with Buddhist practice. This is a book I know I will return to again and again as I develop my own practice. The meditations are illuminating, but the most important thought I took from it is that we are all Golden Buddhas covered up by the clay of our upbringing and conditioning.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wise Heart - Jack Kornfield at his best 12 April 2010
Format:Paperback
This new book is well worth buying; it's vintage Jack Kornfield. After so many years I really wondered whether he would have anything new to add. I was therefore astounded how fresh this book seems: the ideas are very thought-provoking and I love the way in which each chapter contains the 'core' idea in a small inset so that you can easily remind yourself of the content if you return to the book.
